I had the best collecting day of my life today. I went to our club meeting and bought the usual, a couple proof sets, a Morgan etc. and even met a very sweet little boy (see my contest for more on this) but the aftermath was wonderful for me. I asked one of the dealers if he had any
Mercury dimes for sale in bulk. He said he had a set that was missing the 16D and 21D but that was it and he was asking 110.00 for it. I figured that with the 21P that was a pretty good deal and he dug it out of the bottom of a box and gave it to me. I checked the 21 and paid the man.
I walked out towards the door and an older gentleman stopped me and asked "Did you say you buy in bulk?" I said sure, what do you have and he showed me a roll of silver halves. It appears that the silver dealer there was not buying because of the high silver price and this guy came to sell. He said he was asking 100.00 a roll and I said "no problem."
My wife got pretty crabby after I wrote a check for 2200.00 for the 22 rolls he had, but I figure I can sell them all for 110 each tomorrow. I left and hurried home to put the kids to bed and bust rolls. My franklin collection is lacking. So I quickly found that these were mixed rolls with 64 Kennedy's, Franklins and
Walking Liberty halves in them. That made me happy enough, but I also found three 1955 Franklins, 7
Barber halves and an 1854
Seated half dollar with arrows!
The real kicker was that when I looked at the Mercs \I noticed that a lot of the dates did not match the coins in their places and there were two 1921 P coins in there!
