Currently getting some pics of a more defined and clear field on a different coin. Most of them seem to have the same flow if not the same markers. So hard to get these in quality with the camera I have. May go buy a new one tomorrow just for this. I hate to waste 2 hours just to drive to and from the closest NGC/PCGS dealer

I would drive two hours plus two more if I could possibly make $8,000 or more! lol. That is assuming you have SMS's.I told you it looked promising from the beginning of this thread.Go for it.

Ya I think I'm making the trip tomorrow morning. Didn't want to go to just any coin guy and the closest certified dealers are all at least 45 min in every direction. Oh well though I'll risk the disappointment. I just read something about "medallion marks" being a dead giveaway once an SMS gets to a certain die state..I haven't found much on the topic yet but I'm assuming this may explain the odd circular swirl polish marks. I'll keep posted on what happens at the coin store tomorrow. Hopefully some good news!

So word is I may have come across apretty beat up roll of some toned proofs(because of the mirror polish around the time)..not likely even Proofs though, but no hopes finding the 1964 SMS in any rolls. I may send one out just for a definitive answer on the matter, but if you have your own UNC 1964 rolls at home, don't get your hopes up like my dumb a** did. Should've listened to Coop and saved myself the ride. Ahwell there's always the 1969 s ddo

With the potential for a big payday you need to work it out internally. We all had our opinions but by eliminating all variables to your particular case, you can at least have piece of mind knowing definitively. All of us had a case like yours and most ended up a dud. Just part of a learning process. On to the next event.

Thanks a lot Rackster. I was most certainly expecting the "you're a dumb***" sarcasm. I never did make it to the dealer on Friday because of work. I'm just going off of my obsessive research on the SMS coins of 1964. I'm fairly certain I have faced the fact that my first "major" find isn't going to be a $3,000 nickel though I can say if nothing else, I have learned probably every piece of available knowledge on the 1964 SMS mystery. I am working on a write up of the SMS sets of 1964 and will post it when I am satisfied. I can certainly say the date freeze is a huge issue to take into account when valuing the SMS coins. That's a different thread though.

It's broader than that. Many folks are just learning about the 1964 SMS sets. I found a 1965 nickel that is likely from an SMS set. I thought it was a proof at first in part on the luster and that I had found several proofs in the general time span. Ended up not being a proof; none made in that year. Simple issue that would have eventually bared itself out.
Bottom-line: folks following the thread learned something through the vetting process and the input of a few learned folks. Savor that.

The SMS 65-67 had a proof appearance are you sure it wasn't one? They certainly exist

Well anyways...one has been sent to PCGS and one to NGC. Any input on ICG? They seem to be pretty reputable as well.
