Just for the kicks, I went to the local banks, all with-in 20-minutes of where I live and purchased a total of 5-10 rolls of Roosevelt dimes from a few banks. I sorted them out in dates,( I also figured I would purchase new dime books to store them in) the dates range from 1962 through to date(2008).I was very amazed at the collection I purchased. The dates run straight through from 62-08, no gaps. This is a total of 50-rolls. There are basically the same amount of coins per year, except a few. I am doing this from LONG ISLAND,in total I was saddened by the amount of silver only coins (6). I also found some proofs, not many and in very fine condition(1988and 1998). In all there were 3-dates that there were only 6-7 coins these are 1971, 1978, 1979. All others there were plenty of, between 15-40 or maybe more( just a guess at the piles of more than 15.So now with 46 dates in a nice huge row, I ordered some new whitman Roosevelt dime books, and plan to fill them and drop the rest off at the local bank coin machine for dollars.Just thought I would share this information with the forum.I was not planning to keep these from the begining, but now with this multi-book collection, I took that route.I saw some members doing this with halves and thought I would do so, turns out that no-one has them unless a straggler comes in to the bank with a roll or two.I also decided to visit more banks for the halves and was told from 2-banks "sorry we have none, everyone seems to be looking for them",one teller went on to say " I would love to know what the prize is in those rolls everyone is looking for". I ordered a half of a box and did this( the dime rolls) to spend some time while my order comes in. BE WELL, MORGANS DAD...

If I read this correctly, you have all of the dates, but not necessarily date and mint? Even so, that is pretty amazing to assemble so many date sets with only 50 rolls. Nice job!

I think the kicker in this is the 6 silver Rosies!

That is a great find for so few rolls.
Keep it up!!

HELLO and Thanks to all, I have a whole lot of dimes and no whitman books to fill(ordered them, not here yet, although the store is in the next county over about a 40-minute ride, next time I will take the ride instead of useing the internet. So to take things a little further, I took a good look at what feels like a hundred or so dimes under the loop and magnifying glass.I do believe what I am finding(being though I am a MORGAN VAM HUNTER, I am finding all sorts of die breaks, missing face parts, incused things, slanted dates, doubled torch bases, doubled mint marks, doubled rims, doubled dates, and more dates, and a massive amount of die polishing lines, on obv and rev.I am into errors on morgans ( die types) and I will admit, besides being smaller and harder to hold with a cotton glove on, there are a lot of die errors and mistakes just like with MORGANS.I wonder if there is something out there , a study and or some documentation on Roosevelt dime errors and different die types.I might have a lot of work to do .All this while I am awaiting my halves in rolls to arrive at the bank.I never thought I would be involved in this and at this point in my collecting years,44+, well for all concerned, its much cheaper and easier to find the product, compared to MORGANS.Is there a site out there equal to "VAMWORLD" FOR DIMES, if so please post such.I am very much into dimes now.I attend a coin show every 2nd and 4th sunday and for the last few shows I have been collecting roosevelt proofs. I must try to complete the full set.I will also say that the san francisco mint proofs caught my eye and now, well lets just say that the s-mint is still putting out some stunning, eye candy. Also it is totally available and very reasonable, BE WELL, MORGANS DAD
PS; I will be that person on ebay selling in new whitman books, 1964-to date sets. Where have all the old dimes gone, probably in most of the members collections!!

I ran through a box of dimes about a month ago. Didn't find any silver, but was able to put together a complete set with all mints (not proof) from 65 on. It didn't take the entire box either but only 28 rolls.

spring cypress, so it would appear that this is not an uncommon event.I thought differently, I could not believe I put together at least 6-10 sets from 1964-to date. I also see you have done it also. Leaves me to think it is not that remarkable of an event,May I ask where do you live( your state). I would advise you to look at those coins closely, you would be suprised at the errors and other things you will find. BE WELL, MORGANS DAD...

I've found that Clad Roosies are the easiest sets to put together from circulation. Easier than the Memorials or for that matter State Quarters.

That said it's easier to put together an AU set of either of the others than it is a Roosie set. Dimes have always seen pretty good circulation until relatively recently.

I really enjoy the Roosevelt series. I should be finishing my MS set within the next couple of months. I can't wait to finish it for a couple of reasons. It's taken me much longer to put together the clad side than I thought it would and also I REALLY want to post images of it here but don't want to do so until it's finished. I just have a couple of the S proofs (both clad and silver) and a few of the P proofs to go before I'm going to call it finished (Might also try to find a couple of good errors as I'll have two open slots).

Only 6? Out of 50 rolls! Certainly you jest. That is excellent. I can barely maintain a running average of 2 per box, my best was 4 in 1 box. Sweet score on the silver.

These are actually a little easier to find nice than almost any of the pre-2000 dimes except the '85. I'm not sure why the '85's are easy. The '82's and '83's were saved out a little so some haven't had as much circulation. Dime velocity started decreasing rapidly in the late '80's and turnover dropped in the mid-90's. This means there are a few of the '82 and later dimes that can be found in nice AU condition.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Pictures would help alot! If the D is on the obverse near the date, we can narrow it down to either 1968, or 1969. Picures would really help with error status and you might want to start a new post in error forum when you get picure!
