to CCF...IMO, you graded it a little to low, AU-55/58 to me (but I'm no pro) Obverse looks like it may have been cleaned...lets see what others say....

Thanks Greasy Fingers its graded 53 By PCGS . It doesn't look cleaned to me may be the photo , I was having a issue with the lighting . It seemed a little under graded to me but wasn't sure if it ws that it had a good strike that makes it look better

Nice AU coin! Looks like PCGS got it right.
Seems like there are "jillions" of AU 84-S Morgan's out in Coinland! The dollar spread between AU and BU prices is amazing. A lot of the AU's have been dipped to death, too!

thanks Westernsky yeah it was the nicest 53 I found after searching for awhile and the toning was a plus . I have a few 53 Morgans and this is the nicest . I was priced out of the higher grades , and seemed as nice as some of the 55's I was seeing

I am searching for a 83 s in 55 right now but everything out there seems comparable in grade to this one will probably hold out for awhile

I would have given it a 55 details since the obverse looks a bit off. If the TPG did not assign a details grade, you got a bonus.

I'd say AU-58 as well, and agree that this pic makes the obverse look possibly cleaned. to the CCF!

thanks all, on the look of being cleaned do you think its the glare or the scratches? I tried to get the best pic but the lighting and scratches on the case may be playing into that.

The obverse fields show quite a bit of friction which suggests the coin was lightly cleaned at some point. Overall detail is AU-55 or 58. The assigned (lower) grade likely takes the possible cleaning issue into account. Still a nice coin with good eye appeal.

interesting just compared it to a few of my other AU coins all graded 53 to 58 and all have the same little scratches , most the BU coins have it to, this one also still has some luster on the cheek , forehead and a few spots in the field. Thanks for all the info

Quote: 55 looks to have all the same little scratches , in fact most the AU'S I am seeing online have the same small scratches. There are different types of little scratches. In the original photo the little scratches in the field appear to be hairline scratches from a cleaning. In the other photos the little scratches appear to be from circulation. It is also possible that the coin has some hairline scratches from an old cleaning, but not bad enough to details the coin, so the coin was net graded down to AU53.
