I found this quarter in a bank roll that appears to have multiple mint errors. Looking for 2nd opinions. I have attached a side by side comparison of another of the same quarter. Edited by JHED87 05/28/2022 11:14 am

@jhe, first welcome to CCF. Second, with heavy, flattened rims and wear in the central portion of the coin, this looks to me like damage. I'm thinking this is a dryer coin.

dryer coin, or the very beginning of a spooned coin.

Not Broadstruck as it would be larger, not smaller and also shows partial reeding. Slightly smaller and thicker rims means either an early stage dryer coin or spooning. Either one are considered damage to the coin as this could not occur during the striking of the coin.

Quote: The smooth edge is almost perfectly uniform around the circumference of the coin. The coin only shows normal wear to the obverse as well Exactly the description of a coin that has been in a washing machine for a while with the obverse facing up.

Not a mint error. Done after it was struck. The devices were there, but now they are removed. How do I know they were there. Look at the deepest points of the reeds. You can see they were there, now they are removed. So like a wrecked car, the damage wasn't there before the sale, but now that it has been damaged, it is not a factory error. Same with a coin. Someone/something altered the coin after the strike. The coin is now a cull coin. Just a face value coin now.

Post mint damage. Spooned is my opinion. The missing details on the REV would not be hard to do with tools/sanding/etc.
