It looks like the one on the right sold on Great Collections in 2019 (Sun, Oct 27, 2019). That black spot by the chin shows up in both.

My guess, the coin on the left based on seller (account is just over a year old and score of 6).

The notches that keep the slabs neatly stacked look suspect to me. But after reviewing some of my slab images, I am not so sure that is a good indicator (those notches have changed over time).

This is a topic of discussion on the PGCS forums, looks like we now have fake PCGS slabs for sell on ebay.

As to the fake, the one on the left looks suspect. The font is slightly smaller and the 2 points in the middle of the coin look more pronounced. Either way the Morgans look real in both cases.

Same cert number sold in 2019 at GC

It is not the same coin or plastic as look at the bar code spacing at bottom of label. .

It's nothing new, they been around for years.

Also the PCGS topic describes some elaborate scheme of taking the real coin out and putting a lesser grade real coin back in the slab. Nope, they just fake everything most of the time.

Both barcodes read the correct coin ID, grade and cert#. The fake slabs typically have barcodes from the wrong coin. So one of these is a smarter fake.

I'm not a Morgan person. Didn't the reverse type change such that there's a wider / rounder notch between the neck and right wing? 1902 maybe? That notch seems clearly different between these two coins. Counterfeiters typically use the same reverse die for multiple year fakes. This is the one on the left. The other one has a good reverse image in the listing so I didn't bother.

Edit: Looking at Heritage archives it appears that both "shaggy" and "smooth" notches at the right neck-wing junction existed in 1901, so that doesn't help. Any experts?

This one sold by seller catper-53 on eBay 5/18/22

GC with same cert number sold in 2021

Looks like the seller's MO is to choose a coin on GC copy the label and use a genuine coin with a fake holder.
