I ordered the Jefferson nickel Albums and picked up my first two boxes of Nickels to sort. First box in my opinion went extremely well finding the following:

1939P - best coin in the box as it would pass for a 2019, remarkable!! I will post a pic later....
1940P
1940D
1941P x 2
1941D
1942P
1942D
1943P
1946P
1947P X2
1949D
1952S
1954D X2
1957P
1958P
1959P
1959D
1960P X2
1960D X2

24 specimens of 1960 or earlier in 50 rolls!! I was at 24 with 6 rolls left and thought I had a lock on 25 to average 1 for every other roll.

That does seem like a great start. Are you hoping to complete a full date/mint set or just a date set? Or are you just seeing what you get?

Second box fell much more in line with expectations as the keepers fell to 18 for 1960 and earlier coins, still a good return with these winners found:

1940P
1940D
1941P X3
1942P
1943P
1945P
1946D
1947P
1952D
1954D
1958D
1959D X2
1960D X3

I will spend a good bit of tomorrow sorting out the high quality specimens that I set aside of each year and will sort down to keep the best one of each and enter into the album. After that I will post the representation at that point.

2-4 War Nickels (I can't tell if your 1942 Philly coins are War Nickels or not), a '42-D and a 58-P amongst 4,000 coins is a really nice start in terms of better-date coins. Congrats!

Hopefully you're also searching for 2009-dated coins as those are worth quite a premium.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,500,000 nickels searched in seven years! Have found THREE complete Jefferson sets!

So for the first 2 boxes and the 1938-2003 Jefferson Album, I filled 79/179 spots and that was not checking everything after 1960, just pulling out some of the better specimens. Now that I got a lot of the easy ones out of the way, I will check every coin going forward against the needs list. Having a blast!! The other album should be here either today or tomorrow.

Looking forward to following this thread. Is you 1939 a type I or Type II?

It is the Type 2 1939 Variety. Thanks for the question :) My 2004 to Current Album just showed up so I am a kid in a candy store again :)

I was excited to find out about the different types of REV b/c it gave me more to add to my set . The slabbing companies do not seem to be aware of using the serif to tell them apart (easiest way IMO) b/c they only show the steps as a way of discerning these, and the steps many times cannot be seen from wear.

So after re-sorting 2 boxes, I have filled 105/179 nickels in the 1938 through 2003 album and 40/67 from the 2004 thru 2023 album for a total of 145/246 different nickels represented. Picking up 2 more boxes tomorrow :)
