My whole collection still fits in a shoebox and I don't currently have a girlfriend (last one was a chronic liar, and good riddance to her), so my answer is . . .
. . . . actually, none of the above. My dog would go under one arm and I would be dragging a blanket behind me, putting into it every vase, canvas, doll, and china plate my grandmother ever painted after doing a clean sweep of my picture table. Some things are more important than a bunch of Roosevelts. My grandparents' wedding picture is one of them.
If I had a girlfriend, however, the answer would be "BABY TAKE THIS *shoves coin box into her arms* NOW RUN!!" and I would be following behind her with the dog, et. al.

Since most of my coins are not in my home, I do have some all in one small box in the house so it would be easy to grab. Having said that, wife & cat & coins.

If the coins aren't in a fire proof location, gold and silver will melt and during the cleanup either the police or firefighters will take them into safe custody for you.
Since I live in a one level house, I can start throwing things out that I want to save. In no particular order: artwork, coins that are unsecured, dogs, family pictures, wife. However first I'd have to put some pants on.
Actually, I have fire extinguishers in or very near every room of the house and every vehicle that I own. My wife does think that I'm paranoid but if you've ever heard a person on fire you'll understand why I do this.

I sleep like the dead, so the wife would have to wake me up. Also, I have 5 hard-wired smoke detectors in the house. When one goes off, they all go off.
If it came down to it though, I would definitely take the wife. You can't talk with the coins, travel with the coins or share good times with the coins. If you think you can, you may want to seek professional help.

50% for each? I think half of you should be filing for divorce.

Well, half of all marriages end in divorce. I think we now know why!

If it is living it gets out. The coins can go up with flames, the wife has to get out, followed by any animals. I'd even get the hamster out before I got non-living possessions out.

Who would make fun of me about my coin obsession if I didn't save my wife? Plus, she might be the only one that would understand my pain after losing my entire (no matter how small) coin collection.

I'm not married yet, but if I was... Order of importance: Kids, coins, wife, pet, laptop. As far as I'm concerned, kids and coins need help to escape but my wife should be able to by herself. Plus, we had just had an argument, right?

Quote: my coins live in an "in ground" fire proof safe, I've been out of the safe business for some time so I may be really out-of-date here, but one of the things to watch out for in your floor safes was whether they are waterproof. In the event of a fire, the firefighters will pour thousands of gallons of water all over your house, and that water will often run into your in-ground safe. We often recommended to customers that they store items in zip-loc bags inside the safe. Saw similar problems at convenience stores where kids mopped over the safe cover regularly.
