To me, the point of the coin is that its face value is $ 20 and therefore the value of the coin, in theory, cannot go below $ 20 as you can spend the coin as regular money as it is legal tender. Again, in theory.

In Canada only, though, right? I suppose (also in theory) that I should be able to take it to my U.S. coin shop and get $20 for it (before conversion rate and coin shop fees). This coin won't be protected from inflation, however, so it's like sticking a (very pretty) $20 under my mattress.

Or it could be returned to the mint for face value? I don't think it is redeemable at the banks or businesses. (hence NCLT)

You can redeem the $20 for $20 coin for merchandise OR cash at any of our Mint boutiques. As for banks or other businesses, it's up to them. We've had a few members say they've used their $20 coin at starbucks and Timmy's with no problem.

That's great if you're in Canada. And I love your coins and I want to get into collecting them, so I guess it really doesn't matter if I'm not.
I guess I'm trying to bridge the mental gap of since I am in the U.S., whether I'm trading $20 for $20, or buying $8 of silver for $20.
Also, at the rate these things are blowing out the door, this discussion may be moot by the time I make up my mind.

I like to think of it as a hedge on silver, hope it hits $80 an oz, with the way things are going and the historical markets for Nov,silver should go up,albeit mabye not to $80 ,,,,,, YET

$80 an oz, well some believed it would hit $130 by December. Still a long way, but we never know.

If silver is gonna hit $80, let me know so I can stock up on ASEs. I don't see this as an investment opportunity at all, nor is it probably supposed to be. I do see it as a fun opportunity to get some Canadian silver. Being in the US I'd have to get 3 to make it worthwhile though, and for now that 75 bucks is gonna go towards a 25th anniversary ASE set on Thursday. Yes, I realize I'm now talking about spending money on overpriced US silver :) I've gotten a few bullion Maples; They're great and only have a premium of a couple bucks/oz. I think I'll stick to those for now. Thanks for the conversation, guys.

I know some Americans who hated getting Canadian change not to long ago. You are buying $8 of silver for $20, if you look only at metal value. There is collector valve. The first coin was plain and could have used more detail but looks good overall. The second coin has nice artwork that isn't a cartoon in detail but well drawn and doesn't use simple gimmicks. There is an illusion there that is well done and thought out. I really hope the RCM puts strong artwork on the next coin. Something with detail and shown traditional and with fresh perspective again. It could become a strong series if the images on the coins stay high and are well selected and stand out due to good quality art and are well produced. We shall see with the next coin. If it is for collection or because you like it... so far the series is good and getting stronger, hope it stays that way. Go for it. If it is being able to get your money back easily you should be able to sell easily enough for the time being. I wouldn't worry for now, but watch things like ebay, silver prices, is the series going strong or is it getting watered down. If it is about making money one day... it would be better to have more than 3 of them. Most of the speculation would mean for a really bad economy ultimately.

I have one more question,(maybe RCM can answer it.) The first $20 for $20 came in a plastic capsule. The next came in a plastic pocket. Does either or both of these contain PVC? Thank You.

Mine was in a capsule in a plastic pocket in a paper folder. I would assume the plastic pocket is PVC if you are not sure. But you should still have a capsule?
