I have around 3000 coins at the moment. At the start of the year it was closer to 5000, of the 2000 that are gone, I gave away probably 95% of them to new collectors and traded most of the rest with members here. I sold maybe 10 coins. My goal is to get it down to around 1000. There are a few sets I would like to complete, mostly US actually, but then my main focus will be type sets.

About 2500 coins. Ancients, medieval milled and modern, from the invention of coinage up to 1974, when Austria was the last country in the World to withdraw silver from it's circulating currency. I digress a tiny bit. Mexico did for a small period issue circulating coins with silver in them after that date. Not now.
The more valuable ones are not kept at home. I don't buy coins worth more than $100 anymore, because of Capital Gains Tax. That reduces both the security liability and tax liability.
Almost all are attributed, most of these with additional info. of when acquired, for how much and from whom. Don't collect NCLT.

Wow, I wish I had 1485. I'd like to have a couple hundred high quality coins. I think it's safe to say I'm close to 15,000 now, but nearly 10,000 of those are lincoln wheats of no significant value!
My next trick will be to sell of as many of those wheats for as much profit as I can muster, and I know I'm gonna need a lotta luck!

some of you guys have some really nice collections, I just started and only have about 100, 150 at the most, but at the same time I am military and not trying to grow to much yet, as we all know coins get heavy, and they don't give us very much weight when we move, so keeping it low now, but once I retire it's game on

I posted a number earlier, but have added since then. The number of coins I have should be about 1592
edit: had to adjust number since original post was talking about number in your collection

Update of my previous posting here (11/18/2009).
World coins added since then 1,791 total now (and whoohoo another milestone) = 12,010. World banknotes added is 939 total now = 2,772.
God, I love this hobby!

I have tons...I'd say over 15,000. But alot of those coins are only valuble to me. I put them in in 2x2's and write on them if it's a special coin. I have a penny I found at the hospital the day my son was born, a dime from my first date with the love of my life, etc. It's just a way for me to relive moments of my past. Some people take pictures, I keep the change! lol

Quote: I may be a bit paranoid, but I choose to opt out of this question for security reasons John1 well that statement kinds of defeats your intentions. Now we all assume you have an extremely large collection. on a different note; I need a good way to catalog my coins. Anyone have a good program/system they want to share>?
