I am not so sure that greed is a proper term when aimed at all people who bought 5 sets of these. I think everyone believed there would be a little premium on them. I do not know if anyone saw the entire scope of what they would bring.
I know I ordered (note that term) 5 b/c I was hoping to sell enough of them to make back the initial 1500.00 outlay - figuring I would get to keep one set - maybe 2, but I thought that was stretching it - boy was I wrong!
Greed had nothing to do with it. It was done out of a motivation to find a way to make the hobby self supporting. Is it also greedy that people are sending in their sets to be slabbed in hopes of being able to sell a set of MS/PF70s so they can make more profit? That's like asking if you found a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow would you be greedy for taking it!
I am a part of another hobby where I have a nice collection that has cost me absolutely nothing monetarily. Being a small-time dealer within that hobby I have striven for a reputation of being honest and giving people a good deal. I have gone back and paid people more money when something I got from them sold for more than we expected, and I have freely given new collectors a nice pieces to start with. B/c to me, part of the hobby is this kind of fun. Yet I have been able to make enough legit profit to get what I want for my own collection. I do not see this as greed - its called American Capitalism and it is how we came from a backwater, weak colony to be the major superpower - and also the most CHARITABLE - nation the world has ever seen in its history.
Since I have been successful in the other hobby, I intend to take the same position with coins. So I would ask that the term "greed" not be so easily thrown around. The field was open for anyone to order.
I feel the root of using the term greed
might (note that word and, please, this is aimed at no one - I have seen the word greed in other threads as well) be too easily thrown about by people who could be a little bitter they did not get their "chance."
I am not saying everyone is innocent of greed - but taking advantage of a good opportunity is a
privilege of living in a free society. When opportunity knocks, are we supposed to ignore it so we are not called greedy? I doubt anyone here, if offered 5 of these sets at 300.00each, today, would turn them down (and they would be foolish to!).
BTW - I do not know if I will get my sets even though I have screenshots and proof I had an order - but their computer stole it from me by wiping it off of my account for no reason. I also had verbal confirmation of my order.
So if I do not get them, I will not be happy, but I'm also old enough to realize the ridiculous fantasy that life is supposed to be fair has absolutely no basis in reality. So I'm not going be loony and go all "OWS" on the mint about it.
I am
happy for those who were able to make out on this, probably, once-in-a-lifetime, unexpected profit these
ASE sets generated. I think there are going to be several people who can finally get that one coin they have always wanted b/c of the profit they make on these sets - good for them! All the more power to you.
