I just placed an order for this my first Seated Liberty dollar. I will have it in hand sometime next week. It is an XF-40 example and is attributed as an MPD-001 of which I do not know what that means exactly. I do know it has something to do with the date, see picture below. It is a really beautiful coin. Ed ANA LM-3175

MPD means Mis-Placed Date although yours doesn't appear to be so at a glance. Who graded it? I love Liberty Seated dollars. Just wish they weren't so pricey!

The XF-40 grade seems about right. There are some hairlines in the obverse fields that could indicate an old cleaning but perhaps not severe enough to warrant a "problem" designation. I think that little nub of metal protruding from the bottom edge of the rock just above the 2 digit is the base of a misplaced 2. There also might be a similar feature from the base of the 1 but I can't see it in your image. A close examination with a loupe should reveal any additional MPD features.
I don't expect the MPD will add any value. Just enjoy it as a nice XF!

The coin is a "raw" coin and was graded by a dealer I know and trust here in northern California. Several of the coins, slabbed and raw, in my uncirculated type sets came from this dealer. He has a very nice balance of circulated and uncirculated slabbed and raw U. S. and Canadian coins for the novice and advanced collector which is uncommon nowadays. His web site is updated regularly and is easy to navigate. Ed ANA LM-3175

That is a nice looking coin and those are really tough to come by. Looks like it still has some luster to it. Bet you can't wait to get it!

I agree that it's a strong XF and looks to have no obvious hits/nicks which always plagues these coins. However, I disagree with Jaobler, that the coin will not get in a "good" holder (like NGC/PCGS) due to the cleaning and not being market acceptable. The cleaning looks quite obvious on the obverse with the coin retoning in the same way you'll see other cleaned coins retone.

Are you saying it would or wouldn't holder problem-free? I agree the cleaning is obvious and shows most in the right obverse field. To me it's a "maybe" on market acceptability with NGC being a touch more lenient than PCGS in this regard. I realize the OP is not worried about TPG but I'm always curious as to "will it slab or won't it" and this one is a tough call. It's a nice coin either way.

BH1964 is correct, I am not particularly concerned that the coin has had a light cleaning long ago. It has retoned very nicely. A large number of 19th Century type coins have been cleaned at one time or another. As far as whether or not it will slab or not, I really don't care. I don't particularly like my coins to be in a slab. It is too antiseptic, put the same coin in a 2x2 and I can connect with it on a more personal level. Ed ANA LM-3175
