I got this coin at a local bank a couple years ago and was really pleased with the beautiful toning. I always suspected there was a solid Unc piece under the color and wondered what a grading service would say. The potential value of the coin wouldn't be high unless it were a super gem so I was reluctant to fork over the grading fee. However, the October ANACS grading special was just $10 per coin, with free return shipping. I took a chance and included this half. How do you think it did?

MS-60 Details - Recolored, Altered Surfaces, etc... I just have a feeling that they did not like the toning, which would give the "MS-60 details".

I actually really like the toning on this. I think it does a really nice job of covering up a couple of hits in the fields on the obverse.
I'm just starting to look at grading halves... and as such... and since you made a thread for it... and just to be contrary... MS65

I agree with low MS, MS 62 or 3, due the the bag marks on the obverse. I think the toning is natural.

Toning looks natural to me. I will go along with consensus MS62-32 grade range.

Boy the back of that coin is awesome. I feel like the front has a few too many dings to go as high as what everyone above has put. Too new to grade - interested to hear the grade you got though.

No problems, apparently original toning according to ANACS, solid mint state. I'm pleased! Oddly, on the report form included with the shipment ANACS added a comment for this half: "Machine Doubling--Not a Doubled Die". Apparently the grader found something unusual and volunteered their conclusion. I don't notice any doubled features on it and did not submit it as an error or variety candidate.

those additional comments, another reason I love ANACS.

Got here too late to play! But I had a solid MS63 in mind before I scrolled down and saw the holder. I think with toned coins like this it is really hard to grade from a photo, as the underlying luster that may exist is not able to be seen with a single static photo. Tough call, I like the color, quite different from a normal or lightly toned Kennedy half.
