I literally live 5 miles from JPL. I should have stopped by and offered them a slightly better one

Looks like a DDO too. Maybe just the photo but I can see doubling on the date, Trust and Liberty.

This coin probably won't be in circulation in the U.S. again

It's one less problem coin to be sold to an unsuspecting collector- er, I mean one less SGS MS-70 Lincoln Wheat cent to be listed on ebay.

I hope they send all the cleaned coins to Mars. I'd rather they not darken my doorstep again!

So what - been to Mars plenty of times... In fact there's even a coin shop there (well - close).

Well the Iranians hate the USA. Most of the same area hates the USA. Many other places right here on Earth hate the USA. Now here we go ticking off the Martians with cleaned coinage. AND not only cleaned coins but a lousy Penny too. Picture this one now. A bunch of Martians planning on sending us piles of their cleaned coins in retaliation. And if you think China is bad with all the counterfeits, just wait until you see what the Martians are planning. Next thing you know NASA will be trying to find a way to irritate the Venusians with cleaned coins. No wonder why Captain Pechard finds so many unfriendly worlds. At least the Forengy use Latinum or we would be sending them cleaned Pennies too.

Quote: ..and probably not scrubbed clean like this one. The scrubbing was probably deliberate so they can see any changes caused by the Martian atmosphere. They most likely did it themselves.

Everything that goes up must be sterile but not sure the scratchy pad helped that. Note the sealant. They take this very seriously.

Poor Abe. What did the Martians do to deserve this?

Ha! Of all things to use as an instrument calibrator, a likely ruined-at-their-own-hands numismatic gem! As for Curiosity, I wish her and those that built and engineered her the success of her older sibling, Opportunity. Quote: .... No wonder why Captain Pechard finds so many unfriendly worlds. For the record, it's Captain Picard and the Ferengi.

I also think it was done intentionally to avoid any glare. Well, the aliens could start a TPG and start with this coin! I'll send my coins to Mars for grading. Can't be any worse than what we have here on Earth!
