ran into these three today. I assume they are large date. is there a fail proof way of seperating large and small dates? any help would be appreciated. my eyes are getting old.

thanks for the help. did anyone notice the mint mark location on the third coin? it appears that it is sitting higher than the rest. any thoughts? is this normal?

The mint mark was hand punched into the die. The position will vary. Starting in 1990(I think that's the correct year) the mint mark was on the hub (I would think it would be the master hub).

Hi, does that picture for small/large date apply to all lincoln cents, or only 1970? Just found a 1974-s and according to that it's Large date.

No it applies to the 1970-S only. 1974 there is another image I use to ID that years large and small date:

The 1974 small/large date are pretty easy by comparison. If a 1974 cent looks like a mushy pile of crap, it's probably a small date.

Also on the 1970S Small Date "Liberty" is very weak...I always check that first.

You guys are awesome and so helpful! I actually believe that it's a 1974-s small date. I will try to get a picture up by tomorrow for confirmation. I don't think it carries a premium, but i'd just like to know if I detected it correctly. :)

The 1974 ones run about 50-50%. So no premium would be attached for these.

More Large Dates selling as Small Dates...they seller states...I am not a coin expert but this appears to be a small date...its over $10.00

What does "recolored mean? I found this and it states it has been "Recolored"...does that mean cleaned or plated? Never heard of that before...
