The Mega Million jackpot just topped 500 million! I bought a ticket, just for the fun of it.
So, what kind of coins would you buy with part of that jackpot?

I bought ten for the Tuesday draw...nuthin! I'll buy ten more, and I'm sure I'll get in with the 200-300 at work. Easy, finest Large Cents I can find. Open my own shop, full-time.

I would probably travel to every coin show that I could, looking to cherry pick and buy undervalued coins. I would DEFINITELY have my eyes open for the top 100 US coins. Still a sound investment.

I would collect at least one example of every world coin made of silver until I owned the globe. For the countries that have never minted any, I'd commission them to do so. And when I was done, I'd start over on gold coins. Now THAT'S a good dream!

Wow, it was 257 million last night when I picked up a ticket. If I win I'll see everyone at ANA in Summer!

I'd then work with world class sculptors and die engravers and proceed to make the finest, most amazingly unique bullion products on the planet. Of course if I'm feeling lazy I might skip all that and finally get started on that 1 kilogram Australian Gold Nugget collection I always wanted.

Lots of modern gold and silver, but slowly. Otherwise I'd blow right through it all way too quickly. If I was that rich I'd probably buy that Gulo Gulo coin too. Not too bad of a premium for an ounce when you're sitting on 500 million :P.

I estimate that after taxes the winner will likely have roughly $210 Million from the cash option.
Quite a hefty haul.
With that kind of moolah you could probably spend the rest of your days putting together a complete US set. Eventually everything goes up for auction. Might take you 40-50 years, but it is likely doable.
That being said, I think I would find joy in the freedom of hunting out coins. It isn't worth anything to me if I don't work for it. Outright purchasing 98% of the coins needed for a complete US set wouldn't satisfy me. Part of the fun is the haggle, the search, the unexpected find, the piece-by-piece joy of putting things together.
That being said, I think I would focus on repousse coins and maybe even learn how to make a hobo nickel.

Hilarious! I'm watching TV and there's Anderson Cooper with the Mega Millions Jackpot on his "Ridiculist". It's a sign. One of us is bringing it home

I almost hate to admit this.....I probably wouldn't be buying any coins for at least the next few years. I've always wanted to travel extensively & figure it would take that long before I stop living out of a suitcase.
