Hi, I am new to this forum and I hope all you experts can let me know how this 1890 CC Gold Twenty dollar coin will be graded . I have had this coin for a while now and I am thinking to get it graded from a professional coin grading service. The pictures probably are not very clear and I can try and take better pictures. Thanks Nilesh Edited by nileshcvtech 04/06/2012 12:37 pm

What a way to start our community! Your double eagle may possibly go MS 61 as there are many surface contact marks. It may also drop down into AU range if they notice circulation wear. Still it is a great coin.

Definitely smart to get it graded as the Chinese fake everything nowadays

Thank you muddler and mlman123 for your comments. :)
mkman123 do you think this is fake ? I had purchased it from a local coin dealer.

I would say AU-53. It's a very nice coin, but not enough luster to garner an MS grade imo. Carson city gold is a beautiful thing!

Nice Carson City gold! I think you are just shy of MS with this one. I'll say AU-58

Welcome! I would guess AU55 or so and well worth getting it graded.

It looks good from first glance. I'd go AU55/58 on it.

I was thinking AU-50 but from one of the pictures the coin appears to have hairlines and that may cause it get a details grade. Nice coin either way!

With the varied photos in different lighting, I'm inclined to drop my grade to AU-50/53 now. TOo many little dings on the face of liberty to be a high end AU coin, but I still don't see anything to make me suspect it is not the genuine article.

I have never got a coin graded before although I have bought NGC & PCGS graded coins. Do you recommend any particular one ?
Thanks Nilesh

Great coin! AU53 would be my grade. CC gold is tough. Oh yeah, welcome to the CCF :-)

NGC has that awesome clear view holder plus, great optical plastic. That's where I send my coins. I use to be PCGS exclusively but, they rubbed me the wrong way. They are both good though.

Are any of those dings behind Liberty's head raised? Or are they all incused?
