I've attached a couple pics of what I think may be an RPM. I would really like to get some members expert opinions on whether in fact it is or not. If it is do you know which one it is. The CherryPickers Guide only shows one RPM for a 1953-D. This mintmark somewhat resembles the RPM in the book but I can't say for sure whether it is or not. Hopefully the pics are good enough. Thanks

This is not the variety shown in the CherryPickers Guide. When looking at CherryPickers Guide always remember that the variety will not somewhat ressemble but look exactly like. Check http://www.conecaonline.org see if they list a rpm that looks like this. They list about 6 in the variety master listing. I can't tell from photograph. hope this helps RW

Thanks RW for the info. Coneca lists a possible RPM but unfortunately they do not post pics.
Is anyone else familiar with this potential RPM?

I don't see it as a "potential" RPM, I see it as a definite RPM. As to which one it is, I don't know. I haven't ever studied Roosevelt dimes.

Thanks Copper. I am glad to hear your confident assessement. I went to Coneca and looked at there list of RPM's for1953-D. RPM 002 and RPM 003(which happens to be the one in the CherryPickers Guide) that identify a chip on the nostril and die break/chip on the eyebrow as being a way to identify this RPM. It also states that RPM 002 has a die crack going from the ear to k-2. I can't see the die crack but I definetely see the chip on the nostril and something going on over the eyebrow. I've posted a couple pics of the obverse. Come forward CC forum Roosevelt experts and confirm the identify of this RPM.

It's really not that simple. Someone who has some experinece with RPMs on Roosevelt dimes will have to look at this coin and compare it to known markers for a number of different dies before assigning this coin a die number. Suffice to say it's an RPM, that's about as far as you'll likely get with this coin without sending it to someone for a clear identification.

It rarely turns out to be as simpe as you think it is. I would be happy to send this dime to someone who could attribute it. Is there a member of the forum who would be willing to look at this dime or could possibly refer me to someone who could look at it?

JimR, Coppercoins is right,Jame Wiles is the man to send it to. Mailing to him is pretty straight forward. He Lives around Dallas,Tx. I have sent several coins to him. It's not free, probably cost around $10.Maybe little less.Fee plus shipping both ways. Get his email from Coneca site and email him first and he will advise when to send. RW
