So I'm relatively new to picking, but having a blast doing it. I've bought a couple items for $1 that have sold for close to $200 on ebay. So I'm pretty happy. That said, today I ran across my first yard sale where the person said, "Actually, I do!" and ran inside to get them when I asked my usual, "Do you have any old coins for sale?" He came out with a box of coins that I cherry picked through for the following: 1971 S Proof Nickel 1969 S Proof Kennedy half AU 1943 Washington quarterAU 1958 Washington quarter1930 S Standing Liberty quarter5 1936 Mercury dimesBefore I say how much I paid, want to hear what some of you would have dropped on these? I will give a small clue and say he had a bunch of Barber dimes in the box that I passed on because he wanted $10 a piece for them.

I would not have been interested in the proof nickel nor the SLQ, but I'da dropped 30 or 35 on the rest.

Seeing as there is about $30.15 in silver melt value, and not including the proof nickel since I have no idea what the value is on that, I would say $25 is fair. Anything less than that amount and you're probably paying less than what a dealer would offer the same customer who walked into a store.

It's no fun when you all get the right answer. Paid $25 for the lot. Was the first time someone has said yes when I asked them if they had any coins they wanted to sell, so I was pretty excited. I picked up a garbage bag full of SNES games (around 30 of them), a broken xbox, and 10 controllers for various consoles for $6 yesterday, so that the best score so far this weekend -- should be able to piece out the bag for around $200 total. Anyway, as I said in the OP, been having so much fun doing this. When Thursday night rolls around and I start planning my route for Friday I get all giddy at the prospect of what I might find. lol

Ha that's awesome. I do the same thing. I cherrypick from the ads on Craigslist, cut and paste them on to a word document and then sort them out by what side of town they are. I love the big neighborhood and city wide sales!

Hey CoinHunter, I use this to plan my routes: http://yardsaletreasuremap.com/It has a bunch of craigslist ads already included when you do your search, and you can add the listings you cherry pick yourself and plan your route all the through the website. Kinda kicks ass. :) Quote:

This latest batch has mostly $10-15 range games, which is fine, considering there were roughly 30 of them for $6 -- but no super finds. I did get a copy of Earthbound, Harvest Moon, and 18 other games for $20 a few weeks ago. I almost peed myself when I said "How much for the box?" and he said "Twenty bucks!" I wish that could happen every week. Oh, and I ended my route short today (I usually limit myself to $100 per day) cause I had spent roughly $28 of my budget on random stuff (some silverplate, an NES system only, 20 PSP games) when I came across a guy who had a bag of 100 War Nickels marked $100. I counted out my remaining $72 and said "This is what I got on me." He hemmed and hawed and took the money and said, "Get out of here." lol I love picking!
