I actually received this in a tray at work today, do not believe they are in circulation. Pretty positive it's silver. I haven't collected in many years (probably 10ish), but do put away money from the till - been getting a lot of 1930's Canadian pennies & earliest coin this year was a 1919 American penny - not worth much, but still fun. My collection dwindled from about 2,000 coins to about 100.
I am guessing this must be from a proof set or something?

to CCF. Are you talking about a U.S. quarter? If so it sounds like a plated one, probably platinum. John1

If there's no S mint mark, is most definitely plated. Hey, but is still a good find for circulating plated State Quarter.

It's also thicker than your average quarter.

So you found it in US? Does it have a proof lustre to it?

Here are two images to show the quarter. In the photo, the middle quarter is the quarter in question. Hopefully someone can tell me something about it! It was received in Canada, not in the USA.

the coin does look a lot different than the regular 2006, much thicker too...which is typical for a silver coin, does the coin stick to a magnet? As far as I know, all of the 2006 issues of all the varieties were made from multi-ply plated steel, which is magnetic

Maybe fell out of a specimen proof silver set?

And it's not magnetic.

Pretty positive means I still wasn't sure, which is why I came here to ask the question. I'm obviously not as experienced as you are.
This is quite an unfriendly forum.

I'm sorry, but if this was an unfriendly forum, why did the above 5 or do people waste time to help you?

Sure looks like it came from a proof set to me. Circulation strikes and even proof-like strikes don't have that cameo contrast.
According to my Charlton guide, the Proof sets starting in 1996 were made of sterling silver for all coins except the penny. I'd say yours is one of these. Nice grab. Don't mind the naysayers.

Also, notice the thicker and squared off rims. Definitely a proof IMO.
