Yep, a few months ago, a heavily worn 1943-P. What's unusual about getting warnix in change is that they look different from other circulated nickels and feel more greasy as well.

I've saved dozens of them from my change. Keep in mind, I've been saving them since 1982...

I get tired of finding even the BU 63/64's, which is sad. Every time I get a shiny one I think to myself "Self, you're going to upgrade your '64". And it's never noticeably better than what I already have. That's not a bad 41S from circulation though. Nice!

I used to get then all the time in change. Of course that was in the late 40's though.

Quite a few, since I look at almost every nickel that passes through my hands. edit: I have to define quite a few, which is probably a couple rolls or so over 35+ years time. I spent them just the same as a kid but do remember noticing the mintmark over the dome before I actually collected coins. So I was looking at money, I just couldn't keep it. As a fairly new collector, I had a milk route delivering glass bottles door to door many years ago and had a potato farmer that didn't believe in using a bank, he kept all his money a home and paid me in silver dimes and silver certificates every Saturday. Half gallons were $1.15 and he got 2 so I got 2 silver certificates and three silver dimes every time and sometimes he gave me a combination of change to add up to $2.30. I got Walkers and Franklin's on occasion but usually they were Washington quarters, mercury and silver rosies and/or earlier Jefferson's and sometimes I would get war nicks. Just imagine what that money drawer looked like in his chest of drawers? He must have had a trunk or dresser full of money.

THE most common found circulated Nickel in the history of MANKIND ! UGH !! I could have put together 16,000 rolls of the 1964 Jefferson Nickel !! I cringe every time I put my grubby little sausage fingers on one ! ..... (actually my fingers aren't usually "grubby" or "sausage-like".)Quote:Anyone ever get a War Nickel in change? Strangly enough, for me, NO !! ... As many bank boxes of String & Son Nickels that I search through...... You'd THINK that at least ONCE I'd find one in "pocket change". Since this is, in essence, what I'm searching through IS POCKET CHANGE distributed out by the banks ! ... But not one War Nickel has ever made it to my pocket from daily commerce ....... Now..... Wheat Cents....... that's a different story ! ....

I have about a dozen retrieved from circulation, most of them are very dark which kinda jumps out at you.

Many times, but it has been several years since the last one. About 5 years ago I would search boxes of nickles ($100 face) and I would usually find 2-3 silver nickels per box
