Can someone tell me what is meant by 'Early Double Die'? I had a 1984 penny attributed and it came back as 1984 DDO Double Ear/Early Double Die'.

If it was an EDS of that DDO wouldnt it have more details of the ear not less?

That image doesn't look like any 1984 DDO I have ever seen and it certainly does not match the EDS and MDS photos at coppercoins.com. There should also be significant doubling of the bowtie and the beard below the chin.

Quote:If it was an EDS of that DDO wouldnt it have more details of the ear not less? You are correct in so many ways...not sure what that pic has to do with this. But anyway, why don't you ask Ken Potter if he is the one that attributed it ? There should be a new die number for this. But it looks like a plating bubble to me.

The coin subject in this thread is not a doubled die at all.
The OP of this thread did NOT state that the coin was in a slab, they stated that the coin had been attributed. That's not necessarily in a slab.
I would like to know who attributed it, and whether it is in a slab. Then I can answer the post more clearly.
