It took 25 years of collecting on and off, but today I finally finished my 1909-present Lincoln Cent collection. Three hours ago I walked in to my coin shop for my weekly visit and I noticed the 1914 D, I have had my eyes on for the last 2 months was still in the display case. I asked my dealer if I could see the 1914 D again and I couldn't resist, so I picked it up. I have a few ideas I am thinking of regarding the Lincoln Cents. I know errors such as the 1955 Double Die and others can be debated about as to whether they should be included in a Lincoln collection or not. I already have a 1922 No D, but I don't know if I should pick up other well known errors to include in my Lincoln Cent Collection. Now I have to decide whether to upgrade some of my Lincoln cents or try to tackle my IHC collection. If I attempt to work on the IHC, I am going to save for the 1877 first, then the 1909 S? Also what do you think of my strategy of getting the keys first? Edited by Spider5689 07/14/2012 5:14 pm

I am presently working on getting pictures of all my Lincoln cents. In my pictures I want to include my 1922 no D and my 1956 Cent on Dime planchet. My collection of Lincoln cents wouldn't be complete without these and a few others.

Congratulations Spider! I am currently working on my IHC Dansco (I'm very picky), and would suggest that as your next tackle....I love them personally. I knocked the 1877 out of the way immediately but it's personal preference as well as your budget /financial situation like anything else. There are plenty of 1877's out there, just make sure you go certified if you dont know what to look for diagnostically.

Congrats, Spider...good job. I'm only missing the '09S VDB for my complete set. And, no I don't think the errors belong in the set, just my preference.

Nice job. I like the idea of getting keys first because they will be more likely to increase in price as time goes on. Get them out of the way as early as you can. I also like the idea of going on to an IHC collection. I would assume that you could upgrade numerous lincolns in your finished set, but the key dates (unless they are already really nice) would still be lower grades than the others and it would most likely not be cost effective to upgrade the keys. As long as it looks nice to you, that is all that matters!

Yes, keys first. Wish I would have done that 20-25 years ago as well. I am five short of completion for the Lincoln set. CONGRATS!!

Congrats on completing your set...I am just missing the 09s vdb. I have been looking for a few years now waiting for just the right one to come along in the vf xf range.

Congradulations for sure. Is your colletion in an Album? As to all those sort of maybe coins, in some Albums there is a place for the 55, 72 and 95 Doubled Dies. Also, the 22 Plain. There have been some great discussions here about those not really or shouldn't be part of a completed set. Sometimes I feel the same about all the 60's, 70's, 82's, etc. Then too there are those 20 different 2009's. Unfortunately in my Whitman Albums those all have slots. Not sure about Dansco, Littleton or all the rest of the makers. I wonder how an Album would sell if only the main coins from each year accounted for. My suggestion is to jump back to the IHC Album for now. Kind of nice to get a completed set of anything.

I am glad the consensus is to tackle IHC next. I actually started collecting them right after I started my Lincoln Cent Collection, so its only fitting to finish them first. Unfortunately, the keys were out of my budget when I started collecting Lincoln's, but I now that I am older and have a larger budget, getting the keys first is my new strategy. Just Carl, My Lincolns are in those rare blue Dansco albums.
