Poll Question
50c, $1 or $2 coins?

I have almost finished going through 2000 5c coins, have done 1600 so far and found 3 1972s, some 1968s and 7 foreign ones. I quite enjoyed it, are the other coins as good?

I know I will eventually find out, but would like advice for my next set.

Some values might contain more valuable coins, but others might have a greater hit rate of finding something likeable, but the value might not be as much. The latter is really what I'm after for now which, you could say, is more fun.

I love the 5c because finding 1972 5c was the first thing that got me into coin collecting. All of them are great though.

And btw to ccf!

With 50¢ there are many different commemoratives and some scarce years. More fun because you pick a lot out at first sort...but end up throwing a lot back too.

I find 5¢ a task. Small SD, IRB joined etc. is hard on the eyes -oh to be young again and have 20-20 vision.

Totally with Jeff I squint enough looking at this big screen let alone doing the 5's..50's are good. I'll do the 5's from time to time, just not very often.

I said 50c because there's a bit of variety with the reverses to break the monotony.

I went 50c coins as well. Plenty of variety, some hard dates and some reasonably valuable (incused etc). On the down side there isn't that 'big' value coin like the wavy/wavey 2 20c or the $1 mule.

I find 5c coins very hard to search through although I still do it from time to time. To search $100 worth for maybe a couple 1972 5c coins is hard. I'm still searching for a 2007 double head if someone want to give one away . 10c coins don't have many/any high value coins but I still don't mind them.

I go for the 50 cents as the favourite to noodle - their good size is easier on the eyes, enough variety of types to look out for (1991 RAM, 1985,93 COA) Incused, Rotated.

There's always the (miniscule...) chance of finding a 1977COA, 1988COA or 2005 COA as well.

Then again, 20 cent coins are pretty good too, ditto the dollar coins

5c are really fiddly - but need to do in the folorn hope of bagging a DH 2007

I dont do $2 coins at all!!

I haven't voted because I don't have a favourite to noodle. I noodle every coin I get my hands on!

Couldn't answer this; my choice is not there.
I put aside ALL commemorative coins from circulation, as well as ALL Machin bust 20 cents coins, into a 2 litre jar.

I have estimated that there will be about $350 face value to sort through when full. I will build two type sets of the best condition coins, and spend the rest on petrol.

Will probably repeat this process for the rest of my life.

Another Opportunity !

I think 50 cents are the most fun , though I admit they are also the heaviest to cart around from the bank

However, the potential "pickings" are great:
- 2000 Incused
- 2010 Twist-Top
- 1994 wide date
- 1985, 1993 rarities
- all those lovely commemorative variations. Easy to build up the full set of circulated coins, and once you have these can aim for "best condition" coins.

Thanks, 50c coins are getting the love. I need more money to outlay for them in order to get a large number of them, I might stick with the 20c coins for now.

5c - 1972
10c - 1985, 1993
20c - 1966 wavy 2, 1971, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1995, 2001 commemoratives, 2004 big head, 2008 gap between wave and platypus' head
50c - 1985, 1993, 2000 incused flag, 2001 states
$1 - 2000 mule, 2005 kangaroos
$2 - no real rarities

There's probably more, but I can't think of them all off the top of my head. Do you have a McDonald's or Renniks guide?

Yes, the HH on the 1989 $2 is normal. It was for both the 1988 and 1989 issues only.
