HI there all!

Recently picked up my second 1887 large cent for my collection. Tried to find a better one then I had. I took the two coins and one of them has a noticably far 7. Never seen anything about this. Can anyone help out?
Are they common and is there a premium I should know about in case I decide to sell one to fill another hole in my collection. Missing only 2 coins to complete the canada cent collection in case anyone cares....lol

Neat. I wonder what is the definitive list of dates that have the far last digits?

The 1896 is the famous one. Rob Turner has posted a great link to a fantastic presentation on Victorian large cent varieties: http://www.victoriancent.com/upload...tion_pdf.pdf

The sequence of 1896 normal to ultra-far 6 (slide 27) is amazing. There, Rob says these occurred because the last digit was hand punched.

Here's my farthest 1896, which combines a far 6 with an attached die break, which I always thought was a cool combo:

Very cool presentation. Actually helps me out because I have 2 1888 large cents and the numbers and lettering on one of them appears to be much thicker on the reverse. I will have to be more careful with identifying these cents going forward.

JeyRey - That may be due to wear. Since the numbers and letters were beveled (thicker where they meet the field, thinner at their highest points), they tend to look thicker as they wear.

Both of the 1888 are similar condition. I will post pictures and you might get a better view. Hope to get some pics up tonight! it does not look like wear to me but more like punched with a different die completely.
