Poll Question
Maybe its me, maybe at 40 years old I have developed certain values and ethics that drive my life.
I would like to know how many of you feel that at least a "please" and/or "thank you" is called for when posting and asking assistance from this great community at CCF?
If it was not for this forum and key members, my education in the world of collecting coins would not be where it is and I would have surely overpaid thousands of dollars by now. So I think some respect is called for.

Given the choice between: "Grade my coin" and "Please grade my coin" well, guess which post I look at?
I am sick and tired of ... nah, if parents did not instill good manners in their kids we cannot make up for lost time. I would have chosen "thank you" as well but I was limited to one choice.
It is nice to find a young collector who is polite. I bend over backwards to help such a person. But a BRUTE, (I know of no better term) receives no help from me. Great topic and it needed to be addressed!
Matthew, always polite, until the time comes to not be polite. (Has not happened here yet.)

May I please add another option?
* Other, I usually say BOTH, when asking for something, there is normally a "please" in there somewhere. Likewise when receiving something, there is normally a "thank you" (of some form).
It's not only polite, but the way I was brought up.
Thank you for your comments, which are always welcomed!

I have on occasion said thank you for comments on posts that I have made but not for every one. I believe that all of the original posters greatly appreciate the comments made in their threads but don't always have the time to respond to them all with a note of thanks. I do appreciate all those who have commented on my various original posts. As for persons asking for assistance I think it's not really necessary to say please since the membership of this forum are ready and willing to help those who have less knowledge and that's what coin collectors do, pass along knowledge to others. Not necessary, Gyrene, but it helps. Our generosity is seemingly boundless, our willingness to help, infinite. But a simple "please" makes us go more than a few extra miles/kilometers. And at age 61, I, too, belong to the group in which "please" and "thank you" were a part of normal upbringing. I do not expect it, but I am thankful when I see it.

I'm fairly new to this forum (although not new to the Internet - I remember Bulletin Boards), just a few months now, and I notice and appreciate the civility. It's treat, as well as a learning experience, to browse here

It's my belief that this topic is more appropriate in the Main Forum.
It's also my belief that "please" and "thank you" are essential elements of society, and the failure to use them requires response with a taser.

I myself was also brought up to use Please & Thank You. These 3 simple words go along way and carry a lot of weight. I do notice most of the younger generations don't use these word or don't use them as much. I blame the parents for not instilling that in their children.

I think please and thank you are great for in person things, but its possible to be perfectly polite without using those specific words. For posting you can usually spot whose really asking for help and being appreciative of it and who seems to feel entitled to help and gets an angry tone if what they were asking isn't specifically addressed every time.
Personally I think it would get a little old reading that at the start and end of every post, but do feel that even with disagreements its possible to still keep it from being personal attacks. Just treating others with respect to me is more than just saying please and thank you.
For what its worth this board is light years beyond almost all other internet boards when it comes to respect and how posters are treated. Just go skim some yahoo posts and youll lose a lot of faith in people lol
