Coinstar Finds! (Including Bank Counters And Other Machines)

Normally I would say free money, but meh.

Now that is free money.

I'm finding change on the ground everywhere I go these days, including the floor in front of Coinstar machines. Folks seem to be okay pulling change out of the CS reject bin but won't reach down to collect the money on the floor/ground. Averaging $2-$3 per week for the last 6 weeks. I picked up 373 Lincolns cents a couple of weeks ago next to a parking garage kiosk. Not a keeper in the bunch but it was fun grabbing them up and looking through them.

My kids found a Mercury dime in the Coinstar reject bin on Sunday (1917-S - a century old!). We've never found one CRHing, so this was very exciting for us. Also found a few coins from Trinidad and Tabago, two euro cents, and few Lincoln cents.

Silver is always fun, bump, and iv'e found halves to be as hard to find at coinstars as War Nickels. (2 each)

Today I found a token, about $1.80 in regular change, a 1955 Wheat penny, a 2015 10 pence, 3 french euro coins, (2 euro, 10 cent, 1 cent), a 1997 swiss franc, and, surprisingly enough, a 500 Rial coin from Iran.

No, it is not necessary to stalk people in pursuit of coinstar finds, and you may find that attempts to do so result in bodily harm and/or arrest.

There isn't really a 'trick' to it. It is simply a game of luck. There are factors that can influence your chances, however.
One is location. Iv'e checked a lot of coinstars in a lot of cities and states, and Denver is GOOD. Like, really good. especially in comparison to some of the places iv'e checked. Where you live has a HUGE effect on your finds. If I lived in ABQ or rexburg I wouldn't know this thread existed. I would be an infrequent visitor if I lived in colliervile.
You will likely find that larger, busier cities produce better results, and have a better mix of people to provide the cool old and foreign coins you're after. Regional hubs also help by bringing people from different areas (with different coins) together.
Also, I check a lot of coinstars. I know which ones get used and which ones don't I know which to check in order to find cool things.
