Wow hcmusicguy, great find, and great story! That's a cool way to get a free morgan!

Today I found a 1954 p quarter. My oldest quarter, and the first from before 1963.

Kroger coinstar machine had
2 U.S. dimes
11 U.S. Cents
2 Canadian 5 Cent
1 Canadian Cent
2 Bahamas 5 Cent
Moments after my scoop, a gentleman came in and dropped his coins in the machine. I watched (stealthily) and he scooped the reject bin after he was through. I was that close to losing that one.

As I always like to say, "timing is everything"... I also always watch people at the machines... I have a pile of change in my pocket just in case they have a coin that won't go through and offer to exchange it for face value. They're usually happy and thankful for the help. I've gotten several silver dimes (including two Mercuries), a silver quarter, and a proof quarter that way.
