OK, so many of you read my post the other day about the IHC album I have. Well pulling that out and writing that post reminded me I needed to get back to listing the coins I am selling on consignment for a friend. So I grabbed the two Whitman albums and started popping out coins to take pics.

That led me to, hmmmm, I have not gone through my dads IHC either. So I go in my penny tube box and start going through the tube with IHCs in it. And what do I find in this tube of pennies? Holy mother of God, its a 1877!!! I almost soiled myself. I tell my wife. She doesn't believe me and looks at the coin. She is rather impressed.

So, a few minutes later after having 2x2ed the coin it strikes me. Wait a minute, that tube was not my dads, it belongs with the collection I am selling. !@#$%^&*&^%$#@#$%^& I tell my wife and we are deflated. But then it strikes me. This coin will be the payment for selling the rest of the collection. So it worked out anyway.

I am guessing you all would like to see pics of the Indian in question:

Wow...1877-IHC

Wow...1877-IHC

So this little Indian will be off to ANACS soon for grading. I am hoping VG8 details Corroded. Probably go more like G4 or so.

That's sweet! I see no reason why that shouldn't go VG Details.

Lobby, I have no idea of this coins history. The person I am selling it for is the daughter of the man that collected the coins. Any possible knowledge like that went with him.

Now, it certainly LOOKS like it was in ground for a while.

I've dug up quite a few old cents over the years and it has the look of an old copper coin that's been in the ground for a long time, congrats on the good score!

smoker.

Is there any way some additional and somewhat lighter-colored photos could be provided showing the texture of the coin's surface.

I also have my doubts about its authenticity.

For your sake I really hope it is the real deal since that would be a 'SWEET' find.

Thanks,
mdpmedia

Hard to tell through the corrosion but look G6 details to me. As for value, due to the extent of the corrosion, I would estimate it may only for AG money. Maybe $300 if that. I've recently looked at about 75 past sales on ebay to get an idea for what these actually go for. I found it really depends, but they final price is usually a lot less than Numismedia. I've seen VG coins go from $600 to $800 most of the time, although there are some outliers. That's why I would think this would not go for that much relatively.
