Myself 2 this month and 3 and a half over the last 2 and a half years Easy to tell by the hollow clunk sound they make and sometimes by the misaligned obverse and reverse. Also is there any market for these? The 2 someone opened for me had a copper Mexican coin inside

I would guess I have about 12 of them scattered about. I'm not one of the typical well organized crhers like most here, so I can't say exactly. There is a market. Check out ebay. I'll give you a little tip that help you sell it, and make more money. The tip...do some research on the ones that have sold already sold. Where you list and how you list seems to drastically affect the sale.

I've found 5 total over the years but was unable to open any of them. I presumed they were attempts to fabricate rotated-die errors since the reverses were all misaligned from 90 to 180 degrees. As mentioned, easily spotted as fakes due to the dull sound as well as light weight and presence of a visible machining seam around the reverse rim.

I sold them as a lot on ebay awhile back; there wasn't much interest!

12.5 for me. One of them was made with English penny; one of them is a triple pieces but the smallest piece is lost. The rest of them are with mexican coins. Sold one to a head teller for face and she loves me to death (Of course I showed her how to do the trick first).

I found only one so far. A Kennedy half.

Jaobler, I was able to open mine after soaking it in acetone for a while. I let the acetone soak into the space and then gently squeezed the 2 pieces together to force the acetone and gunk out. Do this a couple of times. Wear eye protection! I was able to lightly tap the raised edge until the center came out. I have used this method to remove bearings when they are really gummed up.

You can also attach a dowel to each side with super glue and separate the 2 pieces. Make sure the acetone has dissipated first. You can then clean the super glue with acetone.

I don't roll search so I have never found one EVER. I always hope I will find one in change but since halves don't circulate very often my chances of finding one are pretty slim

Never found one but I did buy a 1972 spy half dollar coin from the Spy Museum in Washington DC. You use a small metal ring to hold the coin and slam it on a table to open it. There is a small space to place film or paper and then press the two sides together to reseal them.
Actually used it to send my sister messages when she was studing oversees. I think it cost me around $20 at the museum so I hope I can find one in circulation someday.

Never found one.Dont know if I have missed them, I dont check every coin. Everyone says you will know it if you see one, but none here. I'm mostly a shiney rim checker, and do let all the coins ding together before moving on to the next roll. I do some checking for DDO's and check all the 82's I see, but thats a bout as far s I go.
