the reeding on this $2 is completely different to any other I've seen. it is 2008, and the reeding it flat instead of being 'cut in'. Does any body have any infomation?
Thanks, Ian

Can you show the reverse and obverse? It might be a counterfeit I suppose.

My first thought was counterfeit too (I think you can tell fake sovereigns like this too).

I can't recall any mention of 2008 Fakes, but there were 2003 and 2002 around for a while. This is an older 'Locked' topic about them.

I have a couple of these and some $1 coins as well with the same rimming. I've noticed on most of them that they also are a little off centre. My guess (without any technical knowledge) is that the rim die hasn't locked in properly because the planchet wasn't sitting correctly and the planchet has moved a little. And this minute movement has caused the rims to be gouged a little wider.

That's my theory until I hear something better ...

If studied closely there are slight variations in the reeding in all denominations. Most noticable on Unc coins, so I guess nobody takes much notice.

I kept a couple of those as well. I'm not sure what the deal was with them, but it seems like the machinery wasn't set properly to cut in the reeds. From my knowledge quite a scarce reeding.

its definitely not a counterfit, I've seen them before, awildeheart and goatieman23' sound right, and yes mine is also a little off-centre.
