I agree and disagree with the previous answers. Mercury dimes have seen quite a bit of grade inflation over the years. I agree that this coin is currently in the VF range, although I don't see TPG going higher than VF-20 even now. Many years ago it was pretty much impossible for a Merc to break out of fine range with any of the reverse lines blending into one another, which this coin has.

Even though I wasn't even alive to personally witness different grading standards I think they make more sense. Some very early slabs are still around. Currently, not enough progress is made going from VG to VF IMO.

If this coin were sitting in my own collection, I would probably call it an F-15.

Like I said, I could buy VF-20, but I'm shocked Macmercury went to VF-30. A choice VF without even clear verticals? XF-40 should already have strong diagonal lines, while this coin has them nearly obliterated. You're usually pretty old school with these. You actually undergraded a Merc I put up for opinions about a year ago compared to what TPG eventually called it. I figured you were gonna call it a F-12.

Great dime Hondo, VF 25 and similar in condition to mine but yours has a cleaner look.
