They consider this a mint error, 47000 of these were minted before the error was corrected.

In Ms 69, I have seen these go at auction from $300 to over $500.
I would say 300 to 350 range is a good price.

My LCS has an MS69 for $370.00. I know that it's been in the case since just after the coin was discovered. I had two of them at one time. Wish I had kept one.

There was an article on the particular coin or variation by cc99999 about a month ago and in it he said basically the same thing that denco7 said. About the only thing that I recall about the article was that there were many of these coins minted and that as more of these coins are found and identified there was a good chance of the value of the coins to go down.

But you can check for yourself. I believe that the thread is still on the site and it is an interesting read. By recollection may be foggy but go an read it for yourself.

I'm still on the fence deciding if I need this for a complete ASE set. Still need the 1995 w but don't know if I will ever get that one.

Crazy prices for this "variety". I just don't care for any coin that is considered "perfect". I am sure that just about anyone can find something wrong with any MS70.

$1200 bid on a PCGS MS70 going on now...plus the 10% buyers fee = "No Thank You".

For those looking for a "lesser" quality version;

It would sweet to find a "raw" version out in the wild.

I bought one for my collection. I don't have the 1995 - W either and like you I am not sure I ever will own one. I am also missing the 1998 bullion coin. Other than those 2 coins I have them all.

I would say that along with the 1995 w , that this has to be part of any " complete " ASE set. Also don't think that I would pay over $400 for it. Patience will get it for less. And I too would love to capture one of these in the wild. I always carefully exmamine every auction or craigslist listing I see

Now you guys have me thinking...

It was last year b/c of CCF that I learned of this variety; got to the safe deposit box with a loupe; about passed out when I saw the 2008 ASE I had ordered that year was this mule; and eventually got it back from NGC with an MS70 grade

So the consensus is it will lose value?

Maybe I should auction it off also - maybe get a lesser graded one to keep?
Opnions?

I would hold on to it,collecting ASE's is only getting MORE popular every year.( The first run 2013 ASE,s sell out in the middle of Jan.? ) And to me, no collection is totally complete without this coin. And most certainly no MS70 collection will ever be complete without your coin or one like it.

It will surely be a key coin as morre and more new and old collectors try to complete sets. IMHO there are only 35,000 1995w and you know what those go for . Unless there is a huge run to recognize previously unknown 2008/07's there arte only 47000 of these. The last MS70 1995W silver eagle I saw at auction had a $15,000 reserve. You do the math.

The shop that has these are wanting $430 for both coins (of course they are in the same holder)

I was hoping to get them for a little less, maybe if they don't sell I can pick them up for less.
