Hi everyone,
I've been trying to find out when the 2013 circulated coins will start to be seen, I haven't been able to find anything that provides any real information other than mint sets.
I'm starting to think yearly releases are due upon the financial year, would I be correct to think this?
Thanks for any feedback.

The Royal Australian Mint is pretty slow to start punping out the new coins. Theyre probably still striking 2012 dated coins. In the past it has take a couple months at least before newly dated coins are released.

Generally speaking, except for commemoratives, you don't often see current-year coins until at least May, and some denominations are much later, even as late as the next year. I recall that I got my first 2010 10-cent in change at the MCG during the Boxing Day Test. There are several threads on CCF, devoted to the first coins found in each denomination for each year. We have contributors all over the country*, and if you back through those threads, you'll see that my remarks have some basis. *many contributors, but Nancy in Brisbane seems to have more firsts than the rest of us put together. As a collector, it is my habit to ALWAYS check my change for new, or uncommon coins - the least expensive way to build a collection.

I'd agree with the "except for commemoratives" observation. I recall the Royal Wedding 20c appearing early in 2011.

I believe it is normal for the RAM to keep a stock of newly minted coins ready for issue, just to keep ahead of the demand. That is why current date for year definitive coins do not appear until later in the year.

Quote: but Nancy in Brisbane seems to have more firsts than the rest of us put together. Heheh! That may have been the case up to early 2011, but I now only noodle the coins from my purse after shopping. I never pay using coins, so I always get at least a few to noodle.

Depends where you are too. I have had sealed security bags of UNC coins turn up here anything up to two years later.
So not only is the RAM sitting on old coins to get issued before the new ones go out; so are the security firms.

Well we could see then tomorrow, next month, maybe September this year or next. I assume they are released only when there is a higher demand for coinage, and a low reserve. I remember 1999 coinage when the 5, 10 and 20 cents were issued in March and the other denominations in November 1999.

How common - or not - are the 2013 MOR dollars? I'm in eastern Vic. and have found only 3 of them in some $5,000 worth of dollars searched over the past few weeks. Haven't found any 2012 dollars, by the way.

In south Australia I am regularly finding. 2013 5c, 10c, 20c commemorative, 50c, $1, $2. The only one I haven't seen is the standard 2013 20c.
