Hi Everyone.
I am in the process of writing a book, a section of it has to do with noodling. I am hoping some people here will be able to help me with some data.
Approximate number of $1 searched to find $1/10c mule. Approximate number of 20c searched to find; 2008 20c wave gap, 2004 large head, 20c 1981 3.5 claw Approximate number of 50c searched to find 2000 incuse millenium
Any data would be much appreciated...
Regards, Brendan

2004 large head is about 1 in $250, gap is far more common, I have stopped keeping them, probably 1 in $40-50. I've found 7 incuse in about $20,000 50c

Brendan I have found 3 Millennium Incuse 50 cent pieces. That is after having noodled through about 12000 50 cent pieces (or $6000 worth). I am noodling coins in Melbourne, mainly inner city. Squire

Hi, and thankyou nancyc. Thanks to Squire Wilson and enworb. This is great data. I personally find 2004 large head more often than the 2008 gap (i dont know why).
Still after data on the $1/10c mule. If anyones interested, it takes approximately 50,000 20c to find 1 1966 wavy.
I will of course have more questions in the future, and of course will reference this website once published.
thanks again brendan

Hi Brendan It just occurred to me. Be careful about statistics for finding single wavy coins . I found my first (and only) 1966 wavy after looking at only about $100 worth of 20 cent pieces (500 pieces) at the beginning of my noodling career . You really need to consider the "recurrence" of finding the second, third etc. coin of that type. Otherwise your statistics may get contaminated by "beginners luck" . Squire

Yes, thankyou Squire Wilson.. a very valid point which had occurred to me also. I am hoping more people will post their data here so I can get a better sample. My first wavy took me about $350 worth of 20c, so that is a big discrepancy.

Ok, here are some statistics from my noodling career. I have gone through about 12000 1 dollar coins, 12000 50 cent coins and 12000 20 cent coins. My stats are: One 1966 20 cent wavy One 30 degree rotated 2010 50 cent piece (twist top) Two 1985 50 cent coins Three 2000 millennium incuse 50 cent coins. Four 2004 large head 20 cent pieces. Four one dollar coins that were not meant for circulation. Six 1994 wide date 50 cent pieces. Thirteen 1993 50 cent coins Fourteeen plus (14+) 2008 wave-platypus head gap 20 cent coins (it is possible that I may have returned some of the poor condition coins of this last type to the "financial pool".
Hope this helps you Brendan

Cheers Brendan I've put some stats on CCF from July/August last year July https://goccf.com/t/125284August https://goccf.com/t/128539There's stats for 2004 pointy A 20 cent, and Incused Millenium. I didn't keep records for 1981 3.5 claw, ditto 2008 gap. As for the 1966 wavy 2, I've still not found one..... With the $1 coins, I've never found a 2000 Mule, and I've gone through at least $10,000 worth; have found 3x 2001 Rotated die COf Federation coins, and around a dozen NCLT or Mintmarked dollars. Best of luck with the project!! Cheers John

I have looked at every dollar coin passing through my hands for 5 years and have probably bulk purchased $1000 worth in that time. I found one mule the day I first heard about them and that started my collecting five years ago. I got a second mule 4 days after that and thought "This is easy" My third mule was found about 2 years ago.

... thanks Brendan
All my finds were achieved over a one and a half year time period. Each day I try to noodle through 100 coins. One day it's rolls of $1 coins, the next rolls of 50 cent coins, the next rolls of 20 cent coins, then back to those $1 rolls etc. I try to visit a variety of banks for "ammunition".
The noodling is a nice "treasure hunt" past time in the evening, after work and before supper.
