I have been going through some halves and am of course saving any silver coins that I come across. However the question that I have (someone may have asked it before (in which case I'm duplicating a thread because I couldn't find my answer) is is it worth saving NIFC halves?

Also, to the best of my recollection NIFC halves started back in 2000. Is my memory alright or is it faulty?

2002 is when they dropped the pretense of circulation and went from about 40 million to about 6 million.

The coins are rare in circulation regardless of year. While the NIFC ones would have no real nuministic value after being circulated they would retain some sort of oddity value.

As a collector I wouldn't pay much over face value for any circulated clad half.

I figure my 11 month old grandson will likely be around for the hundredth anniversary of JFKs assassination. At that time I think there probably will be an upsurge in interest in the JFK halves. So although I won't be around, he probably will look back on me with fondness for making sure he had some of them to play with.

If you like them yea its worth it. If youre just trying to make some money off of them only the nicest ones will be worth the time and effort imo.

I put the nifc coins in rolls (any date 2002 - present) and trade them to a local dealer for $2 face in silver.
I think the bu coins are worth keeping.

I'd say so, yes. Just buy a plastic coin tube and save 'em. It won't cost you much to save them. You won't get rich but it'll be fun. I love it when I get a post-2001 Kennedy.

At that price you are better off spending them.
