it looks real, but I think the price is high for a raw coin of that gradecorrection - after checking around, the price seems okay

It may look real, but there's no way one should pay 2500$ for a coin based on this pictures. If not slabbed, I'd like to see much better photos of the coin before I even consider making an offer.

Looks ok from the photos and the price is right. I would need to see the diagnostics in Liberty before buying a raw 93-S though.

Looks real to me, the common counterfeit is the " aftermarket " S .
Price seems okay. You can say too much for a raw coin, or what a deal this is going to be after I spend $30 to have PCGS gade it .

If counterfeit, it's at least not a grossly obvious one.
The S mintmark looks small to me; the 1893-S Morgans I've seen have a large, somewhat blocky S while this one looks smaller and more rounded. That could mean it's an added mintmark alteration, or I could be completely wrong.
The reverse rim dent is pretty big and should reduce the potential value.
Unless I had the chance to carefully examine the coin in person, I would not risk buying a raw 1893-S. As the key date in a very popular USA coin series the incentive to "fake it" is extremely high and the counterfeiters are ingenious. $2500 will easily buy you a slabbed, no-problem VG-8 example from Heritage based on recent auction records. If you want this date that's where I would be shopping.

"based on the picture" I would say it's good also, we've all seen Morgans with that patina but 'the picture' is not enough to go on with a coin like this. To state the obvious.

It looks like it has some rim damage on the reverse at K5.

Thanks for all the responses. I just was curious as I can't say for sure either way myself.

I don't think you can make a definite yes or no decision on authenticity based on those images.

I would really be careful on this one. Maybe you could try to get the seller to send it off to a TPG. I wouldn't buy a coin of this caliber on craigslist if it wasnt slabbed.

I only have one 93s(IGC VG8) and dont consider myself expert,I do have a couple years of looking at 93s and 94 coins and one thing I know for sure is when you get up around a $1000 there is ALWAYS a reason those coins are not already in a slab! It has some kind of problem and has been bodybagged previously. Sure Grandpa may have left in in the cabinet all these years and its as real as rain but how often does that happen? Any coin that costs more than I normally might have in my wallet I go to a trusted local dealer or Heritage or more likely Teletrade.

I agree there is a reason that it is not slabbed already most likely. Always have to be careful, I'll pass on this one.

How many times have you asked the guy driving the classic '58 Corvette, where he got the car ? " I answered an ad for grampa's old Chevy in the barn. " With the biggest risks, come the biggest rewards. Isn't that a goal of most of us here, educate ourselves to the point where we are confident that we can pick the treasure from the junk.

If it's not certified by PCGS,NGC, or ANACS, avoid like the plague, especially on Craigslist.
