Also to add on to what Doug said once the buying period starts the price is locked. They wont make any price adjustment after that.

Oh I know I am in for some!! I love these eagle sets, they are beautiful, unique, and I think they have more demand than other world coin sets.
I suspect,,, as the price drops in the metals,, I personally think less people will want the proofs, that the main base will be straight up die hard, hard core collectors like myself.
I say this because after reading Michaels blog piece regarding their shrinking market (the US Mint), and as the prices been dropping in silver and gold, its interesting the the proof eagles and Buffs recently here had the lowest mintage numbers. Some people say "oh no its because they ere too expensive."
But the people who are buying proofs steady, they dont give a hoot about price. They want their proofs! So, in turn, what happens with all these sets that everyone says are expensive, is a lot of people get turned off, a lot of people dont want them because they see prices dropping on silver and gold, which have nothing really to do with proofs, ,,, and its actually a boon to anyone still steady buying proofs because then the market realizes "wow low mintage numbers on these" and the prices shoot up anyways.
so overall, I think always buying proofs, especially US Mint product proofs, such as the silver eagles, buffs, gold eagles is a great proposition!

I am in for sure. I guess every time I pass on one of these sets I wind up regretting it and then looking for a set on the secondary market. They are always more expensive there so I figure I can't really go wrong ordering one directly from the mint.

For me it's about the coins, and less about the price of the metal they're made out of. I'm in for one set for sure!

I thought the 20th anniversary set was high at $100, but they are selling at the $350 range right now on ebay. I have bought the other two sets, so I'm not breaking the series now. I'm in!

I ordered a couple late in the day on 5/9 (Mint web site was mostly unresponsive when I tried earlier).
My estimated shipping date is 7/25/13; I thought they originally would start shipping on 6/17. Does this indicate that they sold 5 weeks worth of production/shipping in the 10 hours before I placed my order?

I think this is an occasion where patience is warranted. If you're not concerned about the future value, you buy this and don't give it a second thought. If you're looking to turn this into money someday, I think this is a set you can buy in 3-5 years at a big discount.
