I support replacing the $1 note with the $2 note. Cease printing new $1 notes and ramp up $2 note production to the $1 notes' current level.
The $2 notes would easily take the place of the $1 note in cash registers, and the inevitable hoarding of the discontinued $1 notes would increase seignorage.
Crane Paper Co. would be printing the same basic quantity of notes (in a higher denomination), so they couldn't complain.
The general public is used to a low-denomination note, so replacing the $1 note with common $2 notes would keep everyone happy,
while at the same time justifying circulation of $1 coins that already exist in the vaults. Cashiers wouldn't have to give a customer four $1 coins,
as they would sometimes have to if the lowest circulating note was $5.
With the $2 note in place, they'd hand out one $1 coin at most (or even four Quarters)
Adding a $2 coin would be overkill, but it would make a neat replacement for the Half-Dollar in NIFC Proof/Mint collector sets...
