Clair... based on the recent commemorative halves I've gotten from Denver and the history they have of producing poor quality coins in general... I think a set by them might reach all time lows for sales. (or alternatively all time highs because of the failed attempts to purchase a 70 set)...
I'd be interested in a brilliant proof... someday.

Denver's business strikes and Uncirculated Mint Set coins are good (the only Mint Sets I've ever had to return in recent years were all due to a problem Philly coin), but their BU commemorative Halves went seriously downhill with the 2011-D Army Half (as the Top Pops show). What would be a logical four-coin Kennedy 50th Anniversary Set: Philadelphia Proof, San Francisco Reverse Proof, West Point Enhanced Uncirculated and Denver Uncirculated, all in 90% Silver.

DNA - that would be an interesting set to say the least!
Get you request in to the mint for a set of them...

Thats what frustrates me about Denver so much. They can make good mint sets yet they get handed a coin like the commemorative halfs and half of them come out with bag marks and the quality just isn't even close to what the other mints do with them. I feel like if they had a special set the result would be the same. I do agree with Doug though that the lack of 70s could create a rarity that could bring some added excitement and of course frustration but that just makes getting it more satisfying to me. The four coin Kennedy half set would be really cool. Id love to see a silver and clad one as well ideally both with a controlled mintage but hopefully at least one would have that

OK, I agree. Let's leave Denver out of the loop on special proof sets and maybe the ASE set should take a year off while we celebrate 50 years of Kennedy half dollars. Do we get to count 1975 even no coins were struck with that date? Some sort of all coin-silver strikes would be very nice and should be very affordable, especially if they offer individual coins for sale.

Since the 2011 ASE set has coin w/ mint mark from W, S, P; and now we had S mint special set, W mint special set, why not round it out with P mint 2-coins special set. This will make a great collection for display. For the Kennedy half series: I agree with 4 coins from 4 mints. However, I would like to have all 3 compositions that the series went throught (90% silver, 40% silver, clad).

@clair: Millions of JFK halves were struck in calendar year 1975, so yes 1975 counts ;) @SA4H: A special 40% silver sandwich-layer planchet just for that little run? Good idea as a tribute, but might not be cost-effective due to the low volume. Clad? Cu-Ni JFK's are already made in Proof, Uncirculated and circulation-finish varieties. The coins in my proposed 4-coin Set would not duplicate any standard existing JFK's. Philly Proof and Denver BU in 90% silver are 1964-only, making these two perfect to revive just for the 2014 Set. S.F. can make a decent Reverse Proof, but Enhanced would best be left to West Point.

My one and only set arrived while I was out of town this week. Finally took a look at it today and sadly I'll have to send this one back for an exchange. The coins are beautiful but both have the hazy smudge marks on them and fibers trapped within the capsules. Also the RP has a tiny polished spot in the field that sticks out like a sore thumb. The spot is just to the right of the most right hand sun ray. Has anyone else received on like this? Not sure if it's a contact mark, die error, or what.

I got my 5 sets back today.
I know it has been said they do not send back out returned sets.
But one of them looked like it had been thrown together sloppily - as in the paper (these were cloth on the last 5) surrounding the plastic case was totally disheveled and the coins were not seated properly in the holder. Three other sets were missing the certificate of authenticity.
I may be making a mistake, but I think I am sending all these back and canceling the order. Although somewhat better than the others they sent, the enhanced ones in these sets have some blotches and white streaking in the fields. Two of the reverse proofs have an area immediately to the right of the eagle's head, on the banner, that looks like the machine making the "checkered' background slipped b/c not only is a small portion of the banner checkered, but there is a distinct gouge in one of the banners in this area.
And again, one of them has a lot of small, white flakes (and I mean a lot) that resemble dandruff inside the case. There were hairs included in another one's capsule. So where is quality control on these?
Maybe I will just buy some slabbed/graded ones instead. This is a real disappointment.

That is very terrible Earle42. Seems like you are having no luck with your sets. I hope they will refund everything for you.

Thanks TripAces, there is a return slip in the box and they say they will refund everything if done within 7 days of receiving them. It costs them 23.00 for me to ship them back, so you would think they would have guaranteed a good lot this time. So now it will have cost them ~1/3 the issue price of a complete set b/c of bad quality coins.

In defense of the sets selling cheaply on ebay - my guess is some/many could be cherry picked, which does not explain how cheap some of the 69 sets have sold for. Earle42, sorry to hear about your sets, I ordered two, one is opened and looked great, but it was ordered first day, 2nd set, still unopened was ordered later. I had to send all my SF sets back, same kind of thing you were seeing with a serious QC problem, and I did not try again.., just to disappointed.

Anyone thinking of getting a graded set Silvertown is having a sale on them. The PCGS ones are only 170 now for the 69s with any of the labels same with the NGC. Even the PCGS 70s were down to 230 but sold out right now
