So I went by a coin shop and was talking with the owner. He shows me a Morgan dollar that was a little smaller than a half dollar. He said that there is a guy in St Louis that would put Morgans in a concert bunker and induce them with high voltage to change the molecules so they would shrink. The weight was the same as a (real?) Morgan. Anyone heard of this.

There was an article in CCN by Mr. Regitko about that, and if I recall correctly, he made some himself.

Can't remember what issue it was though...

Oh, and when they say high voltage, they mean HIGH Voltage. And it ain't no rock n' roll

You can also do this if you leave a Morgan on the dash of your car in Texas in the middle of Summer. In fact, most of the time they completely disappear.

And all along I thought it was inflation that was shrinking my dollars.

That's crazy... And actually kind of neat! I'd definitley never heard of this before. It's amazing that the coins can be changed on the molecular level... And actually change their apperence. The amount of power flowing through those machines is insane...

You can even order them off of the first link posted above.. Or send a coin of your choosing to them. I wouldn't mind a Mini Morgan... $65, or a mint ASE $80, or a Rosie dime (the size of a M&M) for $14... Hmmmm

Now, the question is, would it still be legal tender?
and how would a TPG treat it?

1962penny- lol, did you even read all the posts or just the OP's starter post? Like I mentioned in my post above, at the top website linked by Yokozuna they sell all coins from Morgan's, ASE's down to halfs, quarters, pennies and dimes (that come out the side of M&M's) as well as a shlew of world coins in all materials, shapes and sizes..

Or you can follow the email at the site and send your own coins (including gold) and they'll shrink them for a small fee and send them back..

Missouriblue- The atoms of silver (and other elements, such as copper) do not change their nature, they just rearrange. So the shrunken coin has exactly the same composition it started with.

While the diameter of the coin shrinks, its thickness increases. That's how it keeps the same weight, despite appearing "smaller."

Incidentally, the high voltage is used to power electromagnets. Some sites talk about shrinking coins with "high voltage," others talk about "high magnetic fields." It ends up being the same thing.

And it is very cool.
