Perusing the Bay for a large letter 1832.

Just thought the combo of pics and starting price was amusing.

Don't get me wrong. I am a horrible coin photographer but....really?

On a positive note if the buyer doesn't receive a dark out of focus small piece of copper you can always file for eBays Buyer Protection

It's a "good coin in fine condition" as well.

GOOD photos sell coins. Bad photos get posted on forums.

I work HARD to get my photos to stand out from the rest. I have a great Nikon camera, a ring flash and I put a shadow and small border around the edge of the photo to make it look like a 3D, standing just above the page. It only take a second once you have the effect setup and saved on another shot in Photoshop.

I'm glad for bad photos ONLY when I just want silver and when I get the coin it's something nice.

I got a lot of almost 20 "JUNK Dateless" Standing Liberty quarters that half were readable dates, including a 1919. No, not a sharp date, but all the numbers were there. Other coins were full dates including 3-1917 type 1s.

So in some very rare cases, bad photo make for a good pickup!

you guys need to lighten up, the seller isn't a coin dealer, or even a collector. honestly I've seen worse from people in the business/hobby. lets see some of your work before you criticize or make fun of others.

i'll admit at first glance they do look pretty bad but using the roll over zoom function the following are right click/paste copies (without any further post processing other than to get them under 100kb)

with Wade. With ebay's zoom feature, I myself would be totally comfortable buying this coin if I was on the lookout for one. Looks like a nice old copper to me! All that person needed to do was make use of the cropping tool, and this thread wouldn't even exist

I think I might agree with their grade too.

Now the starting price... that's something to about.

I agree, there have been worse pics. At least you can do something with these to actually see the coin as opposed to the perpetually out of focus pictures that some people post. What I find entertaining is that two pictures clearly wouldn't do the job so the seller added six more that all pretty much look the same.

It was a no sale. I guess the photos didn't grab anyone.

No, the seller relisted it with better pictures of pictures

Not a bad idea though, if you can't get good close ups. Still, they would be better if the seller just cropped the original ones.

So do you get the new photos of the old coin... or the bad photos of the old coin... or the old coin in the original bad photos... or all of the above if you're the winning bidder?

No one seems to understand color balance when they post photos on ebay. You see lots of pink, blue and green coins listed.

Seems to be a "bad habit" around here... Picking on ebay sellers for seemingly any reason.

At least it's in focus. I've seen coins so blurry, why even put a picture?

If you know a little image processing - it's pretty easy to get an image and increase the size, lighten or darken it a touch and see what's hiding in the limited data that ebay and a mediocre photograph can give you. Here is a quick under 2 minute fix on the image we were speaking of in the original post. I must have at least an image around this size and it needs to be pretty well in focus to pull off this much of a difference. But here you go, and yes I like some bad shots that keep others away, because I can make an image show me what others can't see. no data was added, I did enlarge it slightly and made the obverse and reverse the same size and rotated them for comparison.

What do you think of the shot now?
