Hey there y'all, I don't often post but I'm curious on what you think of this Morgan. I've been doing some of my own photography recently and on closer inspection ran across a double strike on the reverse of an 1899-O Morgan. Take a look and let me know what you think.

I had to decrease the resolution in order to upload the photo but if you need better pictures I can take more tomorrow. Focus on the letters 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and 'IN GOD WE TRUST'. Those areas feature the double strike most prominently.

Edit:
Heres a photobucket link to a much higher resolution photo.

Can you get a closeup of only the parts you see doubled? It looks like Machine Doubling so far.

looks shelf like and not hub doubled, unfortunately Strike Doubling adds no value.

It is not possible to strike a coin twice on only one side.

I did a little bit of research since I really didn't know much about double striking and I'm pretty sure that this is a Machine Doubling like you say.
Fuzzy, I think the photobucket link gives enough resolution to see all of the doubled parts of the coin.
biokemist, I don't see any doubling on the obverse but I'll upload another high resolution photo to photobucket so that you can see for yourself.

Die doubling abounds in the Morgan series. It's known on pretty much every year and mint mark combination, and some of it is pretty radical. Morgan dies were huge, complex, and not possible to create with one strike from the hub, making doubling commonplace. With that said, the doubling I see on the reverse of your coin is pretty radical, and nothing I can easily assign to the known 1899-O varieties. It's not mentioned in the variety listings, and especially the doubling of the O in ONE is obvious enough to stand out as a pickup which ought to be listed.

With that said, I've got a tentative idea regarding what VAM your coin might be. Could we see the obverse?

Excellent photography.

Sorry I DID mean to say Machine Doubling adds no value. A double strike would add a lot of value! Sorry for any confusion I may have caused, I know better than that. Typing when late and tired is sure to get me into trouble.
