I was going through some inventory last night when I pulled an AU Large Cent that is one of my favorite coins. I wanted to change out the holder from staple cardboard type, to mylar flip. As I pulled it out of the box, it slipped out of my hand, and hit our cement dining room floor (waiting to put laminate down soon). As it fell, everything went into slow motion and an expletive was said. Luckily, it hit the floor on one of the 4 edges then hit the ground and went "clink". I examined the coin and all looks fine thank goodness. Would love to hear your horror stories swcoin.ecrater.com

I drop coins all the time: coins in my collection, coins in my change, coins in other people's change.... But one time terrified me. I went to pick up my date set of coin, which has Canadian and US coinage in it. It's not a big, right now it has around 420 different coins (out of 619). None of the coins are in cardboard holder, just the sheets. So I went to pick it up, but when I did, I did it upside down... mostly all the coins (quarters and higher) fell out. Not much things were around it, just three BIG rocks, a metal bar and my pillow. Luckily, none hit the rocks or metal bar. What horrified me the most, is when I was picking them up, I couldn't find my Canadian 1991 quarter. After a few minutes searching, I finally found it... under the pillow. I couldn't find it because it was in it's fin (it's a fish pillow). Luckily all coins were found, and none were harmed.

Bought an ASE at the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop in LV this spring just to say I got something there. The kid that "wrote me up" (it wasn't Chum) flipped the coin on the on the way to the register and dropped it. Let me assure you, the world didn't go into slow motion for him and didn't even swear until I told him I wanted a different one. You never know what is gonna land on that floor.

I bought a 1990 Kookaburra (first year) at my LCS. Waited and wait to find one in the original trapezoidal mint capsule. Brought it home examined it and promptly dropped it on the tile floor. Swiped at the air at least a couple times as it fell, never made contact. What do you call a trapezoid with one corner cracked off. I would almost rather have damaged the coin. ( which was totally unscathed do to the capsule doing it's job.)

I have dropped coins on several occasions but I think the instance that scared me the most was when I accidentally knocked over the glass of acetone which I was soaking my 1884-S Morgan dollar in. Thank goodness, it fell onto some carpeting and was not damaged but a few electrical cords did get chewed up a bit by the acetone.

I dropped a nice MS 63-64 Morgan on a hard surface and gave it a nice rim ding.

I started carrying around a silver eagle and roll it across my knuckles. I think I've dropped it over 10 times in the past few days. A couple of them I had the coin on my stomach while I was on the couch and stood up.
I just bought a new sterling cream pitcher, and my wife wanted to look at it. She is an extremely clumsy person, and she was skyping her parents at the same time. She not only knocked it out of my hand, but whipped it across the floor into the table leg. It was bent almost in half.

I was at a dealer's once and was looking at a nice coin. Slipped out of my fingers and 'ting!' as it hit the metal foot of the table. Boy, was I embarassed!
I did end up spending some serious money that day, though it wasn't at all connected with dropping that one coin!
Nowadays I tend to hold coins low over a table or safe surface when handling them!

I dropped a raw Lincoln at my local dealers once, it was probably worth about $5k. Luckily, it landed on a rug just below me unharmed....nonetheless, we both cringed. LOL

I dropped my pocket piece in the parking lot of the bank a year and a half ago and it ended up with a few rim bumps. I also had it fall out of my pocket one time while rolling around on a creeper and put a few scrapes in the rim.
While the design doesn't lend itself to showing wear the rim bumps and scrape have slowly been wearing down.

My pocket piece has one rim bump, which is expected, I guess.

Dropped a double eagle that I thought was 63-64... instead of finding the carpet, the coin found the lip of the safe. Now it is a nice bullion coin that almost looks like it is ex jewelry... Sad day and I still kinda get sick to think about it. I have to be in the sauce now to even write this reply.
