Here I am in the middle of the night wondering what the mint could offer for 2014, as a special set.

My idea keeps going back and forth to, something from Denver.

High relief Proof and UNC ASE's

also

Matte proof Kennedy with special reverse
(maybe the eternal flame, at Arlington cemetery)
Then change the Half dollar, to a version of Liberty.
I am thinking flowing hair type Liberty, but modern design
of course with a small eagle reverse.

As long as all these would be Denver, how about
Three Lincoln cents, wheat, memorial and shield all
dated 2014 D, of course all in copper.

Or maybe they should wait until 2016 for a Denver set.
Maybe start a campaign to bring back a version of the Mercury dime for 2016. Then have a special set with Denver
ASE's and the new version of the Mercury dime, have a total mintage of 264,000 sets.

I know threads like this have been posted before, but what else is there to think about at 4AM.

I have been told by mint staff that for 2014 there is definitely a special set for the Kennedy half ( most likely a couple sets one of which will consist of four coins) . The one I found laughable is that they are doing a special set of coins for the March of Dimes and as of right now, this set won't include a dime! Too funny

I imagine there will some sort of 90% silver matte issue for the Kenedy half next year.

If anything I hope they do the traditional etchings. The new ones are terrible. Some of the states are nice, but on average, everything after 2005 or so was way below par from before.

How about winter olympic set? It's not easy to screw up the rings emblem.

World War I centenary - although of course the USA wasn't involved at the start...

or how about... centenary of the death of Martha, the last known Passenger Pigeon - the extinction of what was perhaps once the world's most common bird?

In wishing/speculating about special sets for next year keep a few things in mind. By law they can only have two comm programs per year and I believe both slots are already filled. Any change in designs of the existing coins will require special legislation and it is really too late already for 2014. "special sets" of existing coin designs can be done if they don't change the designs or alloys to something already approved. "Special" finishes can be done without having to get special permission so most likely any special sets/coins issued in 2014 would have to be an existing coin with a different finish.

I'm guessing that the March of Dimes "set" you are referring to is actually the single commemorative silver dollar that Congress and the President approved for issue in 2015.

While it's true that the Public Law for the silver dollar does not include language concerning any type of special set involving the Roosevelt dime (such is not the intent of the law), I would be surprised if the Mint did not create some type of "Collector Set" package that included one or more dimes with the silver dollar.
