...and another one from France - 10 Francs 1949 - cupro-nickel. Last year this design was used - it became a small aluminium-bronze coin in 1950.

Here's a 1949 Jordan 50 fils coin. Interestingly enough, of all the world coins I have, it seems to be the only non-US/Canadian coin I have that is from the year 1949.

I will see your Canadian half dollars and raise you a dollar. I love big silver coins and this is one of my personal favorites.

Here is a generous gift from Santa! Poland, 1 złoty, 1949 The first złoty of a free Poland... and maybe the last, until 1990. These coins were actually minted in 1950. Catalog value is significantly higher than ebay market price, but it is still a very nice present (included in a mix of other world coins ). Merry Christmas, and may everyone who participated receive an equally satisfactory gift

A 1949 Belgian 50 Francs (Mercury type). Circulation silver coins of 20, 50 and 100 Francs were issued that year. The country was getting on its feet again after WW II. Silver coinage restored faith in the currency.

The king of my collection, and his less popular stepbrother, both minted in 1948. 1948 mintage 18,780 1947 Maple Leaf mintage 21,135 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1947_Maple_Leaf"The 1947 Maple Leaf refers to a set of Canadian coins dated 1947 which bear a tiny maple leaf following the date to denote that they were actually minted in 1948. Prior to 1948, the obverse legend surrounding the bust of George VI on Canadian coins read "GEORGIVS VI D:G:REX ET IND:IMP" ("George VI By the Grace of God, King and Emperor of India"). With India gaining independence from the United Kingdom in 1947, the legend had to be modified for the 1948 coins to remove "ET IND:IMP", and as the Royal Canadian Mint waited for the modified matrices and punches from The Royal Mint in London, demand for new coinage rose. To satisfy this demand, the RCM struck coins using the 1947 dies with the leaf added to signify the incorrect date. Normal 1948 coins were minted and issued once the modified matrices and punches arrived."
