I was ready to post my 1948 Mexico 5 Pesos and ... I will have to settle for a closer shot of the 1948 Scottish Schilling that is in NumisRob's set.

Quote: The king of my collection, and his less popular stepbrother, both minted in 1948. Excellent write up. Thank you for sharing the history and the coins.

Sorry for the minor rule violation and obviously my photography skills/equipment are not up to the excellent standard here. Interesting that the other commonwealth country's coins seen above had no problems leaving reference to "Emperor of India" on their 48s. New Zealand is the other country besides Canada, that I know of, that also removed the emperor reference for 1948.
GR58 - love that 5 peso.

First, a note to 'Steve ': Nice photography! Please kindly treat us to more of your skill by showing both sides of the coins you post, for those that may not be familiar or are wondering what you're hiding! Now here's another similar example of French colonialism: FRANCE, colony of SAINT PIERRE and MIQUELON 1948 1 & 2 francs; aluminum; mintage= 600K (1f) and 300K (2f): These two coins represent the entire numismatic Universe (not counting a few essays) of these two small islands that lie just off the coast of Newfoundland. So if you ever want bragging rights for having 'completed a country', this is a great place to start!

Love too, but I don't have a pic of the other side on file. I only take a pic of one side (usually the side with the date) just for my own record. Steve

Keep posting those nice coins .. I wish I could take pictures as good, even if I only have one side .. I have been posting foreign coins (foreign to me), but if some don't start posting some nice U.S. coin (muddler) then I will have to start. Of course I know muddler .. or hope .. will be getting ready to post some of his great looking Walking Lib's. So I don't have to post my low rate ones.

There are plenty of nicer ones posted in this forum. These pics are taken with a $80 camera, set on full auto and macro, sitting on top of a plastic milk carton with the bottom cut out. That acts as a tripod and a diffuser of the light, which I shine through the side. I use a black cloth as a background and raise the coin off the surface about two inches, on top of a screw. Anyone can do that. Give it a go. Steve

You've defeated me by 15 minutes... So here is a manly man sowing seeds on an Austrian coin. It's funny, because seed-sowers on coins are usually shapely women - but not this muscly guy! He's even got a pompadour. Flex it!
