I recently bought 8 sealed cases of pennies from the bank. All where bank wrapped. Most of the coins have Cuds, the 60's and 70's show very little wear and most seem to be proof like. Does anyone know if this is good or bad?

Pictures will help. Are you sure they are Cuds, and not just die chips? Cuds always affect the rim of the coin, while die chips can be found anywhere on the coin and usually do not have any additional value. Personally, I would save any 60's or 70's that look close to uncirculated. They are getting harder to find in rolls. Dave

Yu potentially hav a box worth plenty----loot, plus goodies for Numismatics professionals .....Lets Hope...

for the really shiny ones, they are at least uncirculated, like brand new from the mint. You could have been lucky and received some boxes of pennies from a coin store going under, someone that was hoarding pennies just wanted to get rid of them, or some one inherited them and rolled them up and got the cash for them. Do yourself a favor and if you do search through them, see if you can get a few pairs of the cotton gloves that people use to handle coins and photos. They don't cost much and you can use one hand gloved vice two. If you want you can also buy penny tubes and categorize them by the year/ mint mark, which will make them going through later a LOT easier. Depends on your budget. I wouldn't put it past people to circulate proofs, but typically they are a rare find. Most "should" have "S" mint marks if that's the case. I'd search through what you can and return the rest to the bank. That many boxes will probably take some time to go through, and you'll need a lot of space. I use a 8 foot plastic folding table and a 2nd that I use as a backup. I haven't had a lot of luck with penny boxes from the bank, but I haven't gone through many myself. I know others have. I typically keep just the copper coins and if there aren't any decent varieties and errors in the zincs, they go back asap.

I can't even get the banks around here to sell me one box of pennies so you are quite lucky to get 8 and even more lucky to get a box full of Cuds and errors. Sounds too good to be true.
