Is anyone else out there deeply frustrated with the ebay global shipping program? US sellers are mistakenly ticking the box to enroll in this and it adds about $15 in shipping costs to Canadian orders. The sellers don't see the extra charge, aren't aware the buyers are paying it and aren't actually generally even using the program. I am getting dinged on this regularly. A total ebay cash grab! Given the way ebay pushes the prgram to sellers, it is borderline fraud I would say. *** Edited by Staff to remove YELLING ***

It really annoys me too. If you read the details about the Global Shipping Program, coins are not eligible, but it's a way for ebay to bring in extra cash by ignoring their own rules.

This option should be left to the buyer, not the seller.

yup sucks because anytime I see the "international Customs and Tracking Provided" statement under the listing, I don't even click on the listing. USA buyers are loosing Canadian business because of this IMO. I even won a couple auctions not knowing it was the Global shipping program and I cancelled the listings......not paying $30 shipping for a $25 item.

I believe the costs actually go to the shippers, but it's the same problem here in Britain. GSP calculated import charges are around 20% of the total.
But in the UK coins of 'numismatic interest' are exempt from import duty and liable to reduced tax at only 5%. Similar story with books.
But there doesn't seem to be any way to reclaim the charge, so that's 15% (unnecessarily) added on if you win.
I've not bid on such an item yet, but if I wanted to I'd ask the seller whether they could remove the GSP or re-list without. Otherwise I'm just not going to bid at all on such listings.

It seem like I'm hearing more and more negative things about ebay anymore. Are there any other places similar to ebay that I might try?

Had one issue earlier this month. Seller was unable to combine shipping on two auctions. Paying $40.00 shipping plus the bid on $30.00 worth of coins was no good.

I think that problem is not only for Canada, but for every country.
What I do is simply avoid any seller that use that option.

Is it an option, or the default?
I've seen coins go through several BIN cycles and had that disappear and the reappear.
And I have seen the fee all over the place. One was over $40. The old piece of the action for brokering the item through customs when USPS/CP is frequently free, scam.
I won't purchase from any seller using UPS. Nor will I touch one of these auctions.
Alas, I suspect that while continuing to practically giving away services to Americans, US Post will boost and boost rates to Canada. Complain to your congressman, oh wait ...

@North_of_49 - not really. There are other auction and sales sites (eCrater, Google Products, ...) out there is nothing else anywhere close to the sheer volume of ebay. ebay's not bad for buyers but sellers tend to get the short end of the stick. Buyer protection is pretty reliable. As for shipping, I've never gotten too worked up about it one way or the other. I would just look at the total cost to me for getting the coin in hand; how much of that was item vs shipping I didn't really care. If it's a $100 coin and one guy is selling it for $30 + $30 shipping and the other guy is selling it for $60 + free shipping there's no difference from my point of view as the buyer. However see previous comment about the seller getting the short end of the stick...

when I see an item I want with global shipping I send the seller a message on how global shipping will hurt their sales as I wont bid either,,,,most change this for me,,,i have also started using "thanks for not choosing global shipping" as feedbacks I leave. i think if we all do this and ask the sellers to also spread the word I think we have a chance
