Somehow I knew this Super Bowl would be Super Boring. So I pulled out the round box from the cologne I got from my cousin in high school, where I had stashed pennies from when I worked as a soda jerk and had access to circulation coins. I stopped putting coins in here in 1976, and I hadn't touched them since then. The results are: Upper left piles - wheat cents 1920-1958. 1951 D is popular. Upper left separated - wheat with verdigris, and a solitary surprise to the above right (details later). Upper right - red cents. 1975 D seems popular. Separate stack of 1960s; 1964 D is prominent. Middle right - two Canadian 1964s, one tortured Lincoln with a hole (for the holed coin thread if I can find it), one red Lincoln with "Ugh" and "Help" minutely inscribed (for the counterststamped thread). Lower right - big pile of early 1970s brown. Middle bottom - coins with bad verdigris. Stay tuned for exciting updates!

I could never wait that long to see what coins I might have. I am sad the Super Bowl was boring thought it would be a little closer and not a total blowout.

YAY the super bowl is done... only one more week till "The Waking Dead" comes back Great stash there, I just went through my Canadian cents and am working on organizing them, they have been in boxes and bins for years too. most popular is the 1981 at 47 and the 1964 in next with 25, I just got a BU 1964 that is stunning from CRH. I figure it will most likely be the easiest foreign set to complete and since they stopped making them in 2012 you really can have a complete set, not a work in progress like everything else that is still being minted. Plus the best thing about old penny stashes is they were all bought for ONE CENT

I've got a couple of similar stashes going. For nickels, dimes and cents (Canadian). I keep adding to them whenever I find coins (More of a change jar that I've had going on since I was a kid). I'm thinking of waiting a couple more years before I decide to sort them out. I know there are some 50's and possibly late 40's pennies and a good amount of 50's and 60's nickels. Not much in the dimes pile though, mainly 80's. Oh well, atleast I got them for face

Well, it was interesting to see what LWC were circulating 1972-1976 in the Chicago area. I'm a bit surprised that the biggest stacks are 1944-46. Altogether, 98 LWC pulled from my hoard, total value probably $5.00. Now I'm going to quarantine the vertigris and stuff them away for another 40 years. Columns by decade - 1920, 1928, 1935, 1939x2, and something from every year of the 40s and 50s, with verdigris coins offset to the right. 56 D mint, 38 P, and 4 S. I can see why I perceived S coins as "rare" when I was young. And I got this beauty from 1937!

And the final update - what I gleaned from the reds. When I consider the hours put into this, it turns out I was working for pennies.

But you had fun right?
They're still nice copper cents.
